Mechanics And Combos

Within this page you will learn every mechanic and combo interaction there is on Renekton. Make sure to check the videos below if you want to see these mechanics in use, while learning techniques to improve your mechanics!

Mechanics

The importance of knowing Renekton’s mechanics allows you to tap into his high skill ceiling threshold, allowing you to obtain even more power, control and overall knowledge of being able to play into any exact situation. Renekton is probably one of the most underrated champions in the entire game with how many crazy and insane things you can do on him. Renekton’s overall relevancy and power through higher MMR or tougher match ups do require mechanical skill, as most other champions within the top lane roster can simply do way less to over power Renekton if played at a lower mechanical level. Renekton’s mechanics play a huge factor into being able to feel useful or fluid on the champion, as Renekton without that skill feels entirely clunky and one dimensional. Renekton is one of the most rewarded champions in the game if you’re able to pilot him well mechanically, as Renekton's ability to 1v1 or teamfight is insane different compared to your average Renekton.

Auto Attack Cancels

AA > Q (Right click then Q to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > W (Right click then W to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > E (Right click then E to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > R (Right click then R to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > Stridebreaker (Right click then Stridebreaker to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > Titanic (Right click then Titanic to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > Ravenous (Right click then Ravenous to cancel your Auto Animation)AA > Profane (Right click then Profane to cancel your Auto Animation)

To cancel your auto attack’s draw back animation, you can use the following abilities or items listed above to help cancel the animation. The purpose of this is to help quicken your DPS within your combos, allowing you to space your damage perfectly amidst your auto attack timer. This is one of the more simple cancels you can do on Renekton, so make sure to right click then instantly use your ability/item to help cancel your animation.

Item Active Interactions / Doublecasts / Cancels

Ravenous Hydra

Ravenous > AA (Ravenous then right click to cancel Ravenous animation)Ravenous > Q (Ravenous then use Q to cancel Ravenous animation)Ravenous > W (Ravenous then use W to cancel Ravenous animation)Ravenous > E (Ravenous then use E to cancel Ravenous animation)Ravenous > R (Ravenous then use R to cancel Ravenous animation)

Ravenous> Flash (Ravenous then use Flash right after)

To cancel Ravenous Hydra animation, Renekton can simply input an attack command with his auto attack or ability, allowing him to instantly cancel Ravenous Hydra's animation cast and lock by replacing it with his following input. This is typically good for overlapping your damage together, quicking and increasing your most damage possible within the same frame. Renekton can also use Ravenous Hydra and Flash to carry over the active's damage aoe, simply using Ravenous > Flash.

Stridebreaker

Stridebreaker > AA (Stridebreaker then right click to cancel Stridebreaker animation)Stridebreaker > Q (Stridebreaker then use Q to cancel Stridebreaker animation)Stridebreaker > W (Stridebreaker then use W to cancel Stridebreaker animation)Stridebreaker > E (Stridebreaker then use E to cancel Stridebreaker animation)Stridebreaker > R (Stridebreaker then use R to cancel Stridebreaker animation)Stridebreaker > Flash (Stridebreaker then use Flash right after)
To cancel Stridebreaker animation, Renekton can simply input an attack command with his auto attack or ability, allowing him to instantly cancel Stridebreaker's animation cast and lock by replacing it with his following input. This is typically good for overlapping your damage together, quicking and increasing your most damage possible within the same frame. Renekton can also use Stridebreaker and Flash to carry over the active's damage aoe, simply using Stridebreaker > Flash.

Profane

Profane > AA (Profane then right click to cancel Profane animation)Profane > Q (Profane then use Q to cancel Profan animation)Profane > W (Profane then use W to cancel Profane animation)Profane > E (Profane then use E to cancel Profane animation)Profane > R (Profane then use R to cancel Profane animation)Profane > Flash (Profane then use Flash right after)
To cancel Profane Hydra's animation, Renekton can simply input an attack command with his auto attack or ability, allowing him to instantly cancel Profane Hydra's animation cast and lock by replacing it with his following input. This is typically good for overlapping your damage together, quicking and increasing your most damage possible within the same frame. Renekton can also use Profane Hydra and Flash to carry over the active's damage aoe, simply using Profane Hydra > Flash.

Q - Cull Of The Meek / Mechanics And Animation Cancels

Q Buffering

Q > AA (Spam right click through Q animation vs incoming CC)Q > W (Spam W right click through Q animation vs incoming CC)
Renekton can buffer his auto attack through enemy stuns, allowing him to easily counter and return back damage. Renekton can do this by timing Q on any incoming CC, then spam clicking his right click while he’s in his Q animation. This allows Renekton to auto attack right after the Q, ignoring the stun in the process. This is very convenient to stuns like Riven W, where Riven’s E Q W combo is very predictable, allowing you to input Q > AA very easily.
Renekton can also do the same thing with his W, but compared to his auto attack buffer his W is more instantaneous as well as allowing Renekton to partially cancel the Q animation with W. Simply do Q > W by spamming your W in your Q animation.

While this trick is very niche, this can help you easily cheese kills and avoid stuns vs predictable incoming CC.

Q Flash Interactions

Q > Flash (Q damage applies before the Flash cast)Flash > Q (Q damage applies after the Flash cast)

Renekton’s Q and Flash mechanics are worth mentioning, as most other champions within the game are able to use flash in combination with another ability. As Renekton’s cast time on Q is instantaneous, this means the Q damage will apply as soon as you press Q, meaning if you apply flash to this, it will only work after you use Flash. If you Q before you flash, then your damage will only be applied before Flashing.

Q Animation Cancels

AA > Q > W (Auto Attack, use Q and W, then spam Right click onto your target)E > Q > AA (E, Right Click while in your E, then spam Q / You can also do; E, Q then spam Right Click towards the Q animation)E > Q > W - (Same applies above, but instead activate W before, or as you’re about to use Q, then right click with W activated)E > Q > E (E, Q then spam E right at the end of your E cast)E > Q > R (E, Q then spam R right at the end of your E cast)E > Q > Item Active (E, Q then spam item active at the end of your E cast)

These cancels allow Renekton to completely cancel his Q animation, which is very beneficial for fast trades and one shot combos. Typically, you will see this mentioned through my match up notes, so make sure to abuse these and learn how to master them as they’re a part of Renekton’s most crucial combos. There’s a few things to know about these cancels before performing them, as these rely on some variables to make it a lot easier. Having low ping makes these really easy, as it becomes easier to input your commands. Renekton’s E and attack speed can also make a difference, as the higher movement speed or attack speed, the much easier doing Q cancels actually is.

As I mentioned above, there’s a few different ways to do the traditional E > Q > AA cancel, which is by far Renekton’s best Q cancel amongst the rest. You can either spam right click in your E animation then use Q to help you Q cancel, you can use E > Q then spam your right click to cancel the animation, or you can also E > Q > Click Ground then spam right click to cancel the animation. It all depends on your preference, but if you’re playing on higher ping then I recommend the first method. AA > Q > W isn’t a full cancel, but you can cut Q’s cast time by using this to quickly apply DPS in the moments you need it. I also find AA > Q > right click ground into W a better way to use this cancel.

W - Ruthless Predator / Mechanics And Animation Cancels

Rune Interactions

This section just clarifies how each rune works on Renekton, as there’s a lot of weird and crazy builds people play. Most runes work pretty precisely with Renekton’s W, as his W applies on hit effects including his runes. PTA will be instantly applied through each hit of Renekton’s W. Conqueror will obtain 6 stacks off Renekton’s W, due to each hit counting as an individual attack. Comet will apply off Renekton’s W stun. First Strike works on each hit of Renekton’s W. Electrocute can proc off a single empowered W. Grasp will apply on whichever tick Grasp comes up on Renekton’s W. Aftershock will also apply on Renekton’s W after stunning.

These are essentially the main runes to go over, anything else isn’t really worth talking about as they don’t properly apply with Renekton’s W.

Flash, Buffering And On-hit Effect Interactions

W + On Hit Effects (W Applies all on hit effects, with critical strike only applying on Renekton’s first hit of W)

W > Flash (Use W, then instantly move your cursor away and Flash to reposition away)

W + Buffer (Renekton can spam W then right click on a target, while he’s on the same frame as an incoming CC based ability, allowing him to use his W through CC effectively)

W Range (Renekton’s W range is 50 more range than his regular Auto Attack)

This section essentially explains more of the mechanics around Renekton’s W. Renekton’s W can apply basically any on hit item, including items such as BoTRK to work on each one of Renekton’s W hits, or Eclipse being able to be applied off a single W cast. The only on hit effect stat that works differently is critical strike, as it only works on his first hit of W. Other than that, Renekton can quickly apply any on hit item really quickly, this also includes items such as Hullbreaker or Kraken Slayer.

Renekton can also use W > Flash as a way to easily disengage from dangerous situations, allowing him to outplay potential tower dives or create stylish low HP outplays. Do note that training this can be difficult at first, as the timing requires a bit of muscle memory from practice. Not a gigantic mechanic, but still useful if you want to find ways to play these situations.

Renekton’s W can be buffered against incoming CC, which works if Renekton spam’s W just on time or a millisecond after the cast of an incoming stun. This is very handy in match ups that use silences such as Garen Q or Cho’gath W, as well as being handy in more predictable stun combos such as Riven or Twisted Fate. Overall this can be very beneficial to mitigate against the enemy's CC, allowing you to trade even in CC and denying the enemies advantage gained from apply it.

Double Casts And Animation Cancel

W > R (W then use R to help you instantly cancel Renekton’s W animation cast and stun lock)W > Titanic (W then Titanic to apply it on one of your W hits, you can also partially cancel Renekton’s W if you time slightly towards the end)W > Ravenous (W then use Ravenous to double cast over Renekton’s W animation. This does not remove the stun lock)W > Stride (W then use Profane to double cast over Renekton’s W animation. This does not remove the stun lock)W > Profane (W then use Stridebreaker to double cast over Renekton’s W animation. This does not remove the stun lock)
These are essentially Renekton’s animation cancel and double casts amongst his W. Renekton used to have way more animation cancels with his W > Q, W > E and W > Tiamat/Hydra, however Riot never gave them back after bug fixing a bug within season 6, removing the ability to do that ever since (Please bring back Tiamat itemcancels at least 😢). Renekton can only cancel his W with his R, which is simply one of his most important cancels to helping him quickly DPS and smoothly combo and cancel into the rest of his abilities.
Renekton’s W with other items are essentially a double cast, as they don’t really provide anything else other than a way to overlap an additional damage source over W. I typically recommend using the item actives with other abilities of Renekton’s kit, however if you’re in the moment to use W > Item Active, then use it on low HP kills to avoid burning any other abilities.

E - Slice And Dice / Mechanics And Animation Cancel

E Flash Interactions

E > Flash (E animation will go off first, Flash will be locked until E’s animation is fully finished)Flash > E (Flash will go off first, allowing your E to instantly shoot off Flash’s animation, providing a more consistent way of escape or engage)

This is another misunderstood Renekton mechanic that most people should know about. Renekton’s E is very old in its coding, making it one of the only dash abilities that you cannot use flash until its animation is finished. Renekton in patch 7.9 and 7.10 was given the ability to flash while in E, allowing the damage to transfer onto the flashed target, providing very smooth and fluid gameplay. However Riot removed it due to an abundance of experimental changes and bugs, never seeing the light of day anymore (Please change Renekton’s E to work like this 😢😢😢).

When it comes to Renekton’s E, make sure to Flash > E if your intention is to instantly engage or disengage, as this is more of an instantaneous way of getting this combo off. Renekton E > Flash is more of surprising targets off guard, as Renekton can use E to slightly off set his targets location, then use flash to surprise jump on them and burst their remaining HP down, overall being perfect for securing low HP kills.

E Mechanics

E + Cast Delay Removal (Renekton’s E can feel clunky when using E1 into E2, providing a mini delay in being able to cast. Simply spam E towards the end of your E1 to help shoot easily into E2)

E + Movement Speed (Movement speed increases Renekton’s E animation speed, while providing more fluidity between each dashes and Q cancels)

E + Wall Animation Cancel (Renekton can cancel his E animation on very thick walls, walls that he simply cannot normally E over)

Here are some of Renekton’s mechanics with E, as these will help you better understand how his dash works. Renekton’s E works as two dashes, allowing him to typically use E1 and E2 together for various combos. However, Renekton’s E can be inconsistent with bugs and delays through casts, putting higher ping players at disadvantages compared to lower ping players. Renekton can bypass these issues by spamming his E2 right at the end of his E1, if players are trying to quickly dash from A to B. Renekton can also use movement speed items to help make his dash speed faster, while avoiding any cast delay in between E2.

Renekton can also animation cancel his E off thick walls, helping him instantly cancel into his next E and other animations, providing some really interesting and disgusting fast one shots if done right. This is overly tricky however, as Renekton has to put his cursor completely behind his character on the wall, to look for the instant cancel (I recommend watching my animation cancel video to see how this works). Overall this is very good if your play is to quickly one shot someone before they can react, but there aren't enough places on the map to consistently do this, so use in your own discretion.

R - Dominus / Mechanics And Animation Cancels

R Interactions

R + Range (Renekton’s R increases his Q and Auto Attack range by 25, however his W stays at 175 range)

R + Passive (Renekton can increase his fury gain to 30 on cast instead of 20, if Renekton’s below 50% HP as well as applying to any other fury he gains a second)

Here are some of Renekton’s R mechanics when it comes to using this ability. Renekton’s R increases his overall hitbox size, affecting his auto attack range by 25 (150 total range) and his overall Q size. Renekton’s R does not increase Renekton’s E hit box, making it clunky in the process of hitting E’s he sometimes should. Renekton’s W range is not increased with R, as it will still be limited at 175 range. Renekton’s increased hitbox does also make him more prone to being hit by abilities and auto attacks, so keep that in mind when in tight spaces and trying to play around your team.

R Animation Cancels

R > AA (R then Right Click to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation)R > Q (R then use Q to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation)R > W (R then use W to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation)R > E (R then use E to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation)R > Titanic (R then use Titanic to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation)R > Profane/Ravenous/Stride (R then use your item active to instantly cancel Renekton’s R animation, all items work the same way)
These are all of Renekton’s R animation cancels, allowing him to instantly cancel out of his R and use other abilities to help chain or one shot his targets. This is another one of Renekton’s most important cancels, as this allows him to easily burst his targets through one shot combos, or sets up his overall fury to lead into an empowered ability. Overall, R > Q is very good if you’re doing W > R > Q to help one shot 30%HP targets with full damage builds, W > R > E is very good if you’re planning to play for full combo one shots, W > R > Hydra/Stride cancels are very good for squeezing more damage and allowing yourself to instantly cancel the hydra with an auto attack right after.

Combos

In In this section I will list all of Renekton’s entire combos that you can possibly do on him. I won’t go into much detail about everything, but I will highlight the most important combos right at the end of the list below. There will be a lot of combos here all using certain Fury thresholds helping priotise towards empowered W, all having uses for certain situations. I made these over a few years ago, to which I just recently updated and figured why not use it here for fun.

LANE / SHORT TRADING COMBOS

ALL IN COMBOS

Overall these are basically 95% of all possible combos you can do on Renekton. The only ones I failed to maybe include are some titanic ones, but all in all there’s so many combos and things you can do with Renekton based on his overall high skill ceiling and the situational ability comboing towards his empowered W. While there are a lot of combos these are exactly what you should be thinking about learning, as these are simply a demonstration of what you can do.

The most important combos you should do are the following.

E > Q > AA > W > AA > E

This combo allows you to get quick damage off, allowing you to instantly out trade your target while allowing yourself to easily disengage away from enemies trying to fight you back. This is perfect for chunking down your lane opponents, while trying to also set up kills off your 2nd or 3rd trade.

E > Q > W > AA > E

This is a shortened version of the above combo, which focuses on getting your W off instantly on your target before they force a disengage with you. This is perfect for match ups like Quinn, Jayce or Vayne, where they have abilities to completely space away from you and avoid you getting damage off. This combo allows you to easily apply damage and hard chunk them into potential all in kills.

AA - W > R > E > Q > AA > E > AA

This is a one shot combo that allows you to easily nuke any target within the game. This is essential for blowing up any squishes and enemy win condition targets, allowing you to play high damage playstyles to help enable your overall playstyle. This features many different animation cancels that allow you to quickly get your damage off in seconds.

AA > W > R > Item Active > AA > E > Q > AA

This is another version of the previous combo, also known as the seizure combo, which uses the hydra item actives to help cancel R, which the hydra active is then cancelled with your auto attack, allowing you to absolutely break your animations as well as your enemies health bars with it.

E > E

Obviously the best combo for last, this allows you to fly across the entire planet with a couple of E presses. Absolutely insane if you want to visit any place in the world, as well as escaping any high pressure moments within the game. I highly recommend using this when life starts being hard within a game :)
