Why did you make this guide?

I made this because I wanted to give back to the Renekton mains community for being such awesome people, as much as the fact I also want to help pass on my knowledge and everything I know about Renekton. My overall intentions are to help and educate people struggling with Renekton, trying to get them to understand the champion’s design, mentality and what it takes to become one of the best Renekton’s someone can be.

I will always plan to add more things whenever I get time, some of those things will include an early, mid and late game tab, which each one will breakdown many different elements of different match ups and situations against melee or ranged champions. This most likely will be done within a month’s time, due to me also wanting to start up other forms of content again,

I plan to be very active when it comes to making changes, as I want to be sure I can always keep it up to date for the Renekton mains community. I plan to make changes with each patch if there’s anything substantial changed, which may include changing various pieces of match up advice and ratings, or relisting my items within my ‘Items + Builds’ section of the guide. No matter what it is, I’ll try and make it a page within the spreadsheet for.

Why did you start playing Renekton?

Originally I always preferred playing frontlining warrior and assassin style characters in RPG and PVP games, which led me towards finding out my overall playstyle as a top lane melee player. Eventually when I was a few months into league in 2013, I tried looking for a new champion to play, which led me to looking at Renekton’s badass splash art, which simply hooked me into playing him, eventually one tricking him late 2014 onwards.

What makes you keep playing Renekton?

To answer it short, I just love playing him and the community involved with the champion. But on a deeper answer it resides more back in my overall development as a player. In 2014 when I decided to one trick Renekton, I came across SRO’s content which helped me develop a core understanding towards learning Renekton, then within 2015 I decided to try and focus hard on ranked, learning from one tricks such as Shampu, Neryth and Foffy123, leading me to climb from Silver to Diamond in the same season. Many years after that, many other great Renekton players came on the scene such as Romanium, 3in1Warrior, Panther2, Trollnekton, YouXiaoYou and RTO (I can name more), all of these helped me develop my gameplay and game sense to experience many other different playstyles and builds, helping me crafting my overall deep understanding towards how Renekton is played. Renekton’s one of the most unique and fun champions in the game with what you can do and how you can play him, leading me to constant enjoyment from playing him. From that day in 2013 to 2025, I still love playing Renekton and I will never stop!

Why play Renekton?

Renekton in my opinion is simply one of the best champions you can play within the entire game, at least on the aspect if you’re trying to become one of the best top laners you can be. Renekton historically has always been stereotyped as linear and relatively easy to play, which however is quite a giant understatement to what you’re actually doing and learning on the champion, which in theory is absolutely gigantic in the grand scheme of things. Renekton’s high skill and play ceiling, comes from the fact he can build many different items, builds, can play different playstyles, he can snowball heavily, he can peel as a frontliner, he can one shot and assassinate as a diver, he can strongside or weakside, he has a ton of indepth and advanced mechanics… He’s honestly just capable of such much, even when it comes to falling off and misplaying, Renekton’s feast and famine playstyle is a great philosophical journey for learning. The most giant or tiny mistakes all matter when it comes to Renekton’s gameplay, making it a constant battle to near perfection to play him at a high optimal level within most games. You cannot afford to make mistakes on Renekton like other champions, Renekton needs to constantly adapt and be versatile game to game, as this will provide you the best results as a Renekton player. Renekton’s playstyle is just unique, you need to play as a warlord within the top lane, taking every resource and playing to use every ounce of your advantages each time you’re in a game. That is why I play Renekton, I play Renekton to dominate and control the game outcomes.. (As long as my team isn’t 0/15 by 10 minutes hehe)

Does Renekton get outscaled?

This is a simple myth or outdated take most people run with to scare others from playing Renekton (Actually true). The reason Renekton used to be considered as outscaled in games, was mainly due to his powerspikes revolving around building 1 or 2 damage items into full tank, obviously pushing him towards the theory of being outscaled. Through the years from buffs, items, playstyles and overall game changes, Renekton’s overall role in the game has actually transcended this belief, whereas today he has the true power to always be relevant depending on how good the user is. That’s not to say that Renekton doesn’t still struggle, there’s plenty of comps Renekton can feel ‘Outscaled’, for example if the enemy drafts tank top lane with high burst and mobility in other lanes, this can feel very difficult to access with his playstyle. Renekton’s strengths in disadvantageous situations always comes from his versatility, providing you a clear path to victory by building around your items and playing off your overall win conditions. These can be protecting your high profile carries, playing to one shot enemy carries, or generally just playing to show up to every objective to get dragon soul. Each game is a new objective, don’t think about invisible walls of words such as ‘outscaled’ because this is simply a useless way of thinking about a champion such as Renekton.

What playstyle do I choose on Renekton?

Renekton is capable of being played many different ways, some of those ways include being a frontline bruiser whose focus is to dive and burst the back line, as a bruiser you can also play to peel your backline and protect your carries from enemy threats. Renekton can also be played as a high damage assassin, allowing him to use full damage items to get 1.5k worths of W damage onto his targets, as well as using all the animation cancels and mechanics to help squeeze even more damage into his combos. Renekton can also play for the side lane, allowing him to amass giant CS leads as well hard pushing side lane and outdueling his opponents. There’s simply a lot of ways you can play Renekton, as Renekton’s versatile stats, builds and overall roles allow him to be played in a multitude of ways, allowing the user to really play him however they want. My advice when you’re starting out on Renekton, is simply play the basic bruiser builds of Eclipse, Cleaver and Steraks, while trying to learn the strengths and overall weaknesses of what you’re capable of. Overall, play whatever you feel like and whatever you enjoy as these will provide you the best results when it comes to playing Renekton. Make sure to also be open minded as there’s always many different playstyles and ways to play the game.

Is Renekton good to climb with?

I honestly think this is a mixed answer, because the path to playing Renekton at a great level can be very frustrating and hard compared to a lot of other champions. Renekton as a champion is pretty easy to pick up in a matter of a few games, however his kit is full of advanced tricks and methods to playing match ups and situations, which determines his high skill ceiling of what’s possible for him. Renekton’s philosophy as a champion is also pretty in line with what someone would want to have if they’re trying to learn and master top lane, as Renekton is essentially a jack of all trades when it comes to every specific thing he’s able to do. Renekton’s role is also versatile enough to be picked as a first or last pick within solo queue, making him a pretty great pick for either weaksiding or counter picking top lane.

What Renekton struggles to do the most however is trying to 1v9, as Renekton’s single target limitations are what keeps Renekton from having the power to kill everyone else within a fight. Renekton must use his teammates as winnable assets towards winning a game, meaning he needs to play around them effectively enough to help provide him winning advantages. Renekton’s other weaknesses as a pick are entirely related to his outdated design, which compared to a lot of other champions takes a lot more skill to pilot, as any autopilot and poor trades are heavily punished against Renekton. Something that’s also underrated which makes a gigantic difference is the overall mindset needed to perform well on Renekton. Renekton needs clear minded and smart decisions to pilot at a higher level, meaning if you’re playing on tilt, your ability to see angles for fights or ways to win a fight will severely cost you winning moments. Tilting on a champion which is incredibly feast or famine is also pretty game dooming, as your ability to get ahead early matters a lot more than most other champions within the game. Overall Renekton is great for solo queue, but don’t be surprised if you feel frustrated or find it hard to win on him at times. Try to remain positive and always try to play your absolute best, avoid tilting yourself by listening to your teammates or reading into negative game situations, try to just play to improve and that will make you a better player regardless.

How do I improve with Renekton?

Simply try to watch better people play, try to learn from your mistakes and try to put enough practice into new tricks and always give each thing a fair amount of time before judging. A clear and healthy mindset is always important when trying to improve at anything in life, so make sure to even fix in real life habits if you’re looking to perform better as a player, as these go hand in hand towards any aspect of performance. Something I also like to do is use practice tool before I go into ranked games, as this lets me unrust optimally before I jump into a game. Once I’m in practice tool I like to try fury build up to my empowered W, using my auto attacks and abilities to gradually build up to it in the fastest way possible. Once I have done that, I will practice various animation cancels such as E > Q > AA for practicing timing, then I will do other big full combos towards the end of my practice sessions. The point of doing that is to warm up my gameplay and make sure I’m as ready as possible for ranked.
