Renekton's Summoner Choices

Within this page, I will be teaching you everything you need to know when it comes to Renekton's Summoner Spells. Some of the things I will be discussing are the ideologies of each summoner, going through their pros and cons, how to use them effectively, and what playstyles work best for them. Currently I do not have a video exploring this topic, but I will post an update on this section as soon as I make the video.

Ignite

Ignite is one of Renekton's go to summoners, allowing him to hone in towards his snowball heavy playstyle of bullying his opponent, putting all of his strength in full display. Renekton’s goals with ignite are to heavily bully his opponent, using the ignite to guarantee easy kills to shut down his laner, or nullify his laners ability to safely farm and lane safety. Ignite provides Renekton with the advantage to fight absolutely anyone with the early game, making him the true king of top lane, as Ignite offers devastating finishing power towards Renekton’s high damage kit, on top of grievous wounds allowing him to duel most of his fighter and bruiser counterparts. Renekton using runes such as PTA, Coup De Grace and Last Stand, allow ignite’s damage to increase based on the overall percentages applied onto the target.

Ignite is truly a live and die by the sword summoner, as it allows us to have immense dueling and snowball capabilities. However on the flip side, Ignite’s volatile early game focus forces us into playing towards near perfection, otherwise Renekton’s playstyle completely falls off a cliff if he’s unable to sustain his lead through early kills and other advantageous plays. Ignite’s natural capabilities cannot match what Teleport does in the grand scheme of things, as it provides a clear safety net to help provide Renekton with an alternative and safer gameplan, while allowing him to easily navigate in mid to late game lengths of the game.In situations where Renekton is deliberately weaksided, Ignite completely falls off in relevancy providing a clear cut throat weakness with playing Ignite. Teleport on the other hand allows you to safely teleport back in the lane, allowing you to obtain all XP and gold you would naturally miss without it.

What teleport cannot do however is match Renekton’s consistency to easily snowball and completely change 50/50 match ups. Match ups such as Darius force Renekton into going ignite, providing the combat summoner advantage to help overcome and brute force his way into beating Darius. Overall Ignite requires a very balls to the wall approach to the game, you must also have a great degree of macro knowledge to know where you need to be at each point of the game, providing a substantial advantage to help you bypass your need to take teleport.

Here’s a list of clear strengths and weaknesses of what Ignite provides.

Ignite’s Strengths:

1: Provides Renekton even more dueling power, allowing him to easily snowball match ups ranging from easy to hard difficulty.

2: Provides Renekton with a very aggressive playstyle, allowing him to perma kill his lanes or use the advantage to deny his opponents from farming.

3: The psychological advantage Ignite provides allows Renekton to take more fights that he normally wouldn’t get away with, as well as the fact of completely tilting his opponents before the game loads in.

4: Provides consistency and overall power to help completely dominate top lane, allowing teammates to easily force plays topside off Renekton’s increased power.

5: Ignite applies grievous wounds allowing Renekton to skip out on buying healing reduction, providing Renekton with the ability to keep stacking core damage items to help him snowball heavier.

Ignite’s Weaknesses:

1: Ignite is very volatile, where making even the smallest of mistakes can be absolutely giant. These mistakes can range from incorrect timings of shoving waves, forcing the enemies to freeze on you. Incorrect damage assessment or failure of combos, making you miss out on your kills. Or, your teammates misplaying on your side of the map, taking away your Ignite advantage if your laner gets a kill.

2: Ignite’s non-existent safety net makes dying or making mistakes with Ignite completely unforgivable and game losing.

3: Teleport's inherent advantage to come back in the game takes away from Ignite’s ability to snowball on your laner, allowing enemies a second wind to retrieve farm and get back in the game.

4: Ignite is easily punishable, preventing the laner from overstaying in the lane for plates, or forcing the laner to fast push before the enemy comes back to manipulate the wave state in their favour.

5: Ignite’s early game focused playstyle falls off within the later stages of the game, forcing the user to hard make up with their own macro choices and risks in the game.

Conclusion

Overall, Ignite is a very important summoner if you plan on winning hard early, allowing you to easily obtain your items and hard snowball the game in the most relevant stages being the early to mid game. Ignite while a double edged sword is a perfect summoner to play on Renekton if you know what you’re doing fundamentally, hence why if you’re going to play this summoner then make sure to study what to do within the mid to late game. Remember that ignite isn’t always about killing your laner, but the overall threat and substance you’re able to provide against your opponent matters. Make sure to hard utilise wave management to force the wave on your side, as this allows you to create freezing, ganking and solo kill opportunities, allowing you to easily abuse ignite. With the changes to Teleport being introduced as a third summoner, Ignite has been at it's strongest state ever for champions like Renekton.

Teleport

Teleport is one of the most fundamentally important summoners you can take as a top laner, with its ability to easily teleport towards your lane and across the map, providing constant access to be anywhere within a few seconds. Teleport's role as Renekton allows him to keep his calculated aggressive playstyle, while providing him additional tools to help him easily snowball the map. Renekton’s biggest issue is his ability to snowball his lead, as it entirely requires him to lock in and hard focus on trying to be everywhere at once, being a giant drawback when playing Ignite. When having teleport, Renekton can constantly farm towards his powerspikes while being able to appear at any objective or fight, always providing him the ability to make the difference to matter within the game. While teleport can enhance your mid and late game ability, teleport can help Renekton recover from devastating misplays and mistakes within the lane, providing him a second chance to recover and get back onto form if played correctly. This also includes counter match ups, as teleport can also be used to help Renekton stabilise and play safe, opening up towards a more team based role.

Teleport provides a lot of consistency overall, meeting the best of both worlds when it comes to using your aggressive and high damage kit, on top of applying traditional and much later valued roles within the game. While teleport is very great, Renekton’s overall role and purpose is to snowball and nullify champions, providing Renekton a clear gameplan into playing top lane. While Renekton is able to still achieve this, Renekton’s overall snowballing power cannot be compared to ignite within the earlier stages, as Ignite’s overall presence allows you to completely shutdown your opponent, potentially aiding you into ending games a lot earlier. When playing vs champions that utilise scaling damage or utility based kits, such as tanks or champions with target’s % maximum HP and true damage scalings, Renekton’s role of trying to shut them down becomes a lot harder, as Renekton’s ability to overpower them may not be enough without Ignite, forcing him into a losing situation the later the game gets. Teleport within season 16 now also grants a 30% maximum shield upon Teleporting, making this an absolutely insane summoner when heading towards mid game, which Renekton also abuses super heavily with his high HP builds.

Here’s a list of clear strengths and weaknesses of what Teleport provides.

Teleport’s Strengths:

1: Allows you to be anywhere on the map within a given moment, providing you consistent access anywhere through the game.

2: Provides you to come back after misplaying or dying in lane, providing a great safety net into recovering from your deficit.

3: Teleport has a higher skill ceiling, allowing you to make many creative and effective plays towards carrying and winning a game.

4: Allows you to consistently farm and keep up your lead, compared to ignite’s where you have to pick and choose your timings to do either.

5: Teleport allows you to snowball the map more effectively, allowing you to shove your lead through side lanes then allow you to teleport in any fights.

6: Teleport provides you a giant shield, used to provide Renekton with even stronger teamfighting power.

Teleport’s Weaknesses:

1: Lacks the snowballing potential Ignite is able to create, losing you the ability to solo kill harder or more volatile match ups. This is VERY important in season 16.

2: Can be overly punishing if you use it across the map earlier on, making it super risky and game destroying.

3: Have to use good judgement before using teleport, don’t waste teleport if you’re unable to gain anything in the process. For example, use it to stop the enemies from hard shoving or taking towers, or hold teleport to make cross map plays.

4: Hesitation to Teleport in the moment can completely make or break a game, so you need to make sure you’re 100% confident. In the event of a big objective fight, using teleport to arrive before is always more valuable than using it too late.

Conclusion

Overall when it comes to teleport, teleport is a very safe and stable summoner which can be used within any match up within top lane. No matter if you’re playing into an easy or hard match up, teleport provides benefits for each one of these match ups if you’re playing for general consistency or safety. Teleport is a great summoner in high elo as it allows you to always be relevant, while preparing you for many different outcomes to occur within the game. With the introduction of Season 16 role quests, Teleport is a lesser needed summoner if you are playing to snowball, however the lower cooldown provided with taking Teleport normally, can be very beneficial.

Flash

When it comes to Flash, there really isn’t much to say in regards to it being a bad summoner spell, as flash provides many advantages towards Renekton’s kit. Renekton’s high damage allows Renekton to mix that with a non telegraphed summoner in flash, allowing him to easily provide kills onto his targets. Renekton’s flash combos are pretty unique in the game, as it allows him to instantly have point and click access, while allowing him to set up the rest of his potential finisher or one shot combos. Renekton with flash is very essential in the later stages of the game, as it allows him to easily jump onto targets, providing the ability to easily kill his targets or set up plays for his team to follow.

Overall flash is a perfect secondary summoner, as it provides everything Renekton wants in his ability to maintain relevancy through the game. The only disadvantage flash has is simply how dependent Renekton can be with it. Most people consider Renekton’s two dashes as simply high enough mobility, praising his E->E as revolutionary ability to go from one country all the way to the next. The reality of that however is that Renekton’s dashes are very telegraphed, as well as being extremely old and inconsistent, leading to many weird bugs and stupid interactions that stop it from being as reliable as a dash as it could be. Flash bridges the gap from Renekton being able to be a playability asset later on, allowing him to flash in towards his targets as a frontline or assassin playstyle.

People have experimented with the use of summoners like Ignite or Teleport paired with Ghost, however with the nerfs to all summoners in their retrospective ways, flash remains a core part of Renekton’s overall identity in being able to have the most consistent way of playing him.

Ghost

Ghost offers another interesting and unique playstyle towards Renekton by providing him an abundance of mobility, allowing him to easily gap close and chase up towards his targets easier. Ghost completely amplifies Renekton’s ability to easily stay on to targets, making him a giant threat into ranged champions that plan on kiting him in side lane, as well as having the movement speed to easily reach and heavily dive the backline. Ghost is a completely different playstyle than every other, as it requires Renekton to utilise his safe and consistent habits of playing early game without ignite, while playing the objective to scale and look for skirmishing and teamfighting opportunities. Ghost’s movement speed also allows Renekton to avoid disadvantageous situations, allowing him to easily run out or outplay with his high movement speed, allowing him to easily kite out his cooldowns to help him secure kills.

While Ghost provides some positives, the major disadvantages are the fact Ghost has been heavily nerfed compared to what it used to provide. Ghost used to provide resets upon takedowns, while also having a much lower cooldown for Renekton to abuse. While Ghost isn’t the same as it used to be, it does provide a decent option if you’re into majority ranged champions, providing you the mobility to help run down your enemies. Do note that Ignite and Teleport are often the best summoners you can have, due to their ability to easily provide Renekton his clear cut advantages for his play style. Ghost is simply another option you can play if you want to test or try out builds, so make sure to give it a try if you’re interested!

Exhaust

Exhaust is another niche option that you can play for Renekton, providing you the ability to have damage reduction and slow utility, helping you for the most horrible and cancerous match ups you can play against. I only recommend taking this is into extremely hard match ups that you simply need to play to survive against, these match ups include heavy poke marksmen top laners such as Varus, or heavy damage champions such as Illaoi, where taking Exhaust allows you to completely cripple and nullify him in all in attempts while lowering his lethal damage trades in the process. Exhaust can also be very good when playing around your jungler, as Exhaust allows you to easily slow your laner, providing decent gank setup without your W.

Exhaust in normal match ups isn’t that great, as Ignite is serving a way better purpose to help snowball against your match ups, as well as Teleport also providing you more play outcomes on the map. Exhaust is completely situational, I don’t really run it often but it can be a choice if I want to cope with my Varus or Illaoi top depression.

With all that said these are the summoner choices explained for Renekton. You can practically do whatever you feel like, but obviously Ignite and Teleport are by far the best summoners you can alternate between while having Flash every game.
