Fury Management
When to spend fury, when to save it, and how to maximize your resource
Fury Management
fury management introduction
Fury Management is one of the most important aspects when it comes to Renekton, as it separates the skill level between a casual and high level Renekton player. While Fury management seems easy to do in theory, most people don’t fully consider their Fury numbers or calculations towards reaching their Fury thresholds, forcing players to use the wrong basic ability or empowered ability at the wrong time. Misusing your empowered ability can absolutely cost you the difference between getting a kill, or being able to survive within a fight, hence being one of the most important reasons we must consider Fury management as a legitimate learning curve towards mastering Renekton.
Understanding Fury
What is Fury?
Fury is Renekton’s resource mechanic under his HP bar, which allows him to store up towards 100 fury, allowing him to use an empowered ability once he reaches 50 Fury, or two abilities if he reaches 100 Fury. In practice, this seems relatively easy to understand, however compared to most champions within the game, Renekton’s entire main source of damage or utility comes solely from using his empowered abilities, making it very crucial to play around in the process. An underrated aspect people don’t also realise on Renekton, is actually how much Fury he is able to generate on his abilities, as well as what empowered ability they should actually use.
Empowered Ability Usage
Using the right empowered ability is very important when it comes to playing Renekton, as it’s the ultimate decider to provide you the correct amount of damage you need to have better trades or kill opportunities, as well as it also being very important in the overall utility they’re able to provide. With that said, how do we actually use the correct empowered ability?
Q - Cull of The Meek
Renekton’s empowered Q provides Renekton with additional AoE damage as well as providing a giant heal, tripled from the regular Q heal as well as capping up to a quadrupled healing cap. The purpose of using our empowered Q is to poke against our enemy to get their HP down, or simply use it to sustain within a match up. Typically, using empowered Q is very good into tank match ups whenever you’re playing to whittle their HP down like Shen, Ornn, Malphite, as well as using the sustain advantage of Q and Conqueror to help you stat check and outsustain against them. Using empowered Q is also very good for ranged champions, as this allows you to chunk their HP off, while also allowing you to sustain in the process, which overall gives you the early laning power to help lower their HP before looking for an all in around 40-30%.
W - Ruthless Predator
Renekton’s empowered W provides Renekton the most damage possible, as it allows him to strike his target 3x, using his W’s 225% AD ratio to burst his target as well as increasing his 0.75 second stun to 1.5 seconds. This ability is super important for getting heavy trades on your opponent, as this allows you to synergise off the rest of your kit to do quick and burst combos, as well as being very important for all in’s or one shot combos. Empowered W is also very important when trying to peel and protect your teammates, as you’re able to stun your target longer, allowing you to finish off kills with your team or protect and give time for your team to escape or outplay.
E - Slice And Dice
Renekton’s empowered E is very underrated within the game, as the core identity of the ability is to apply from 25 to 35% armour shred on rank 5. Renekton’s E is heavily under utilised early, as your main empowered abilities from Q and W, provide more instances for Renekton to play the laning phase. Renekton can however build up towards 100 Fury then use his empowered E, followed by his W to allow him to deal an insane amount of damage, paired with the armour shred and Renekton’s high burst damage from W. When playing into the mid game, Renekton can always start his fights with his empowered E when committing to an all in, to help provide him an easier time into any duelist or armour stackers. When teamfighting, Renekton can use his empowered E to help him shred any core targets, allowing him and his teammates to deal more damage. Another underrated aspect is that you can stack Black Cleaver or other shred abilities with empowered E, allowing you to absolutely melt anyone.
Overall, when using empowered abilities, make sure to correspond it within the situations above as this is the most important way of using the correct empowered ability.
Fury Generation Numbers
In this section I will cover all of Renekton’s potential Fury numbers spanning across his auto attacks, abilities and considering his Reign of Anger passive, allowing him to get 50% additional Fury when he is under 50% HP. This is absolutely important to learn, as it provides a lot of creative freedom in being able to successfully obtain the correct Fury numbers to allow you to kill your opponents, or simply outplay on lower HP.
Auto Attacks
Each auto attack allows you to gain 5 Fury on hit, allowing you to spread auto attacks through your combos to help obtain yourself Fury. On hit passive such as Rageblade or actives such as Titanic, also contribute towards gaining an additional 5 Fury, as both count towards being an auto attack. Once Renekton is under 50% HP, Renekton can gain 7.5 additional Fury, allowing him to obtain even more Fury to help him within low HP situations.
Q - Cull of The Meek
Renekton’s Q provides 10 Fury when hitting an enemy champion, as well as 2.5 Fury each non-champion hit. Renekton Q provides 30 total Fury on the maximum Fury cap. When below 50% HP, Renekton Q provides 15 Fury when hitting a single enemy champion, as well as providing him up to 45 Additional Fury on a single cast.
W - Ruthless Predator
Renekton’s W provides 20 Fury when hitting an enemy champion, as each individual swipe provides him 10 Fury based on his auto attacks, and 10 more Fury for being an ability against an enemy champion. When below 50% HP, Renekton’s W provides 30 Fury in total when used against an enemy champion.
E - Slice And Dice
Each Renekton’s E dash provides 10 Fury when hitting an enemy champion, allowing him to gain 20 total Fury when used on a single champion, as well as generating 2 Fury for each non-champion hit. Renekton E provides 30 Fury for each single E cast, allowing him to gain 60 total Fury when both dashes are on the maximum Fury cap. When below 50% HP, each Renekton E dash provides 15 Fury when hitting a single enemy champion, allowing him to also achieve 45 Fury on each E cast when hitting the maximum amount of targets, allowing him to gain 90 Fury in total if he uses it from 0 Fury.
R - Dominus
Renekton’s R provides Renekton with 20 Fury on initial cast, allowing him to also generate 5 Fury per each second, allowing him to gain 75 Fury by the end of the Renekton R duration. When below 50% HP, Renekton’s R will provide 30 Fury on the initial cast, as well as providing up towards 112.5 Fury within the 15 seconds cast.
Combos
Now that I have covered all the potential Fury numbers you’re able to achieve, it’s time to talk about how we can put them to use within a game. Previously within the ‘Mechanics And Combos’ tab, I managed to discuss every important Fury combo you’re possibly able to do, allowing you to have the freedom of being able to combo however you want. To make things easier, I will simply relist the combos here as it stays relevant towards the section of the Fury Management tab. One thing I will not include are combos below 50% HP, as each requires less inputs that naturally are easier to put together than the ones I already made.
For example; if I’m below 50%HP and I’m on 0 Fury wanting my empowered W, I can simply
AA (7.5 Fury) > E(22.5 Fury) > AA (30 Fury) > Q (45 Fury) > AA (52.5 Fury) > EMP W > E (Disengage), in these moments you simply just have to try and pay attention towards your Fury bar, try to improvise what you can get up to when trying to get your desired empowered ability.
LANE / SHORT TRADING COMBOS
ALL IN COMBOS
Now that we have shown the majority of all possible combos you can do on Renekton, as well as how much Fury we are able to generate through our combos, the next thing we will learn is
How do we maintain our Fury?.
Maintaining Fury is another skill element towards mastering Renekton, as keeping up your Fury provides you with the instant damage and utility always needed when skirmishing or teamfighting. One thing I haven't covered yet is also how do we actually lose Fury on Renekton?
When Renekton is not in combat for 12 seconds, Renekton loses 1 Fury each 0.25 seconds, allowing you to lose 4 Fury by each second out of combat.
Why does this actually matter for Renekton?
When playing Renekton in high profile moments within the mid to late game, Renekton must try to find a way to always have enough damage and insurances to make an impact on the game, as without having the additional damage or utility needed, Renekton will feel severely underpowered and potentially struggling to apply his overall role within that stage of the game.
With that being said this is why maintaining Fury is absolutely important, hence why I will now list the possibilities of how Renekton can actually keep up his Fury at all times.
Ways To Maintain Fury
Being In Combat
Obviously one of the most effective ways to keep up your Fury is actually trying to stay in combat, which can be simply done by trying to attack something before your Fury falls off. Renekton can absolutely attack anything, as you can use your auto attacks to help you preserve your Fury on your enemies, minions, monsters, plants or enemy wards. If Renekton doesn’t have 50 Fury, he can also use his abilities to help build up Fury from the following things, allowing him to obtain Fury before any major objective.
Taking Champion, Minion, Monster or Tower Damage
Another effective way to maintain Fury, is actually taking damage to help keep you in combat. This is a pretty big and underrated aspect towards maintaining Fury, as you can intentionally let weaker spells or enemies hit you, allowing you to keep up your Fury before you engage within a fight. Alternatively, you can also use lane minions or jungle monsters to help maintain your Fury when you’re roaming through lanes or the jungle, as well as using towers to help keep you in combat if there are no minions nearby.
Honey Fruit
Another important tip to keep your Fury up, is making sure you kill the honey plants within the river and jungle, as it allows you to gain 5 Fury for each honey that you eat. Obviously, if you didn’t know, Renekton absolutely hates fruit and only loves meat, so by nature it makes him angry and gives him the Fury he needs. If you’re below 50% HP, you’re also able to obtain 7.5 Fury for eating any Honey Fruit.
These are essentially the main ways you can obtain Fury as Renekton. Make sure you’re actively looking to maintain your Fury at any moment you can, as the actual difference between not having Fury and having Fury is absolutely gigantic in being able to win various situations throughout the game. When roaming towards objectives, make sure to use any aspect of the above tips to help you maintain Fury to help make life a lot easier.
Now that we have discussed how to keep our Fury up at all times, I do want to present some elements of practice to help you improve at Fury Management. Having great Fury Management as already mentioned is truly the difference between an average and high elo one trick Renekton main, as ultimately this makes up a giant room for overall success on Renekton’s general gameplay.
Practice Methods
So How Do We Practice Fury Management?
We can practice Fury management in a multitude of fun and engaging ways. For someone like myself, I usually like to just go into practice tool, then practice my combos from level 3, level 6 then level 18, where I try to work my way up towards my Empowered W, then constantly repeat using different abilities and auto attack sequences. While this may be unnecessary for some, I personally use this time to help me derust from any break from solo queue I took for an amount of days, while also using it to help me get ready for my upcoming solo queue session. I truly believe practice makes perfect, so for me this is what I do to make sure I have the best possible Fury Management, which helps me entirely autopilot it without thinking about it.
An example of some of my practice routines.
0 Fury Start - AA (5) > E (15) > AA (20) > Q (30) > AA (35) > E (45) > AA (50) > EMP W > AA I could simply do a combo like the one above to help me warm up into a flow state, allowing me to then completely change it up and do a fast combo variant.
25 Fury Start - E (35) > Q (45) > AA (50) > EMP W > AA > E (Disengage) This combo practices my mechanical ability to animation cancel my Q, as well as using the combo speed to quickly reach my empowered W, allowing me to burst my opponent and disengage back.
Another thing that I sometimes do, is that I start from top lane with the intent of trying to find ways of keeping my Fury up, with the objective of walking towards bot lane. This is a fun challenge as I have to try and use minions, taking damage, plants and any other variables to maintain and gain 50+ Fury towards botside. This would essentially help to maintain my muscle memory and situational awareness, allowing me to find a way to keep up my Fury before a fight, ultimately allowing me to find the angles and situations I need to apply it to.
With all that said, that is essentially everything you need to know about Fury Management. This is by far one of the most underrated and most important aspects to mastering Renekton, so make sure to use these tips and knowledge wisely towards your Renekton gameplay.
