Sejuani
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 Q or E Start - As mentioned through other notes, playing off Q and E both require different plays, however in this match up you can essentially do either of them and have pretty good success. Level 1 with E you can also hard trade Sejuani, only if the fight takes place before minions. With that said, play around the strengths of level 1 and look for a level 2/3 kill.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Sejuani you're most likely able to kill her with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Sejuani lose a lot more.
- 03
Play For Manaburn - Sejuani’s mana costs for solo laning are usually pretty high, on top of the fact Renekton’s relentless pushing or trading potential can simply help out sustain against Sejuani’s damage and her overall Mana sustain. Taking D Shield and Second Wind can help you tank her damage, on top of also allowing to hard shove and force her to use abilities to contest push. Doing this can help you proxy when Sejuani is low mana, or create kill opportunities if you play off the wave bounce and freeze on your side.
- 04
Play Around Sejuani Passive - Sejuani’s passive allows her to obtain ice stacks, allowing her to stun off her E when reaching 3rd stacks. Sejuani can also use R to apply a free stun, however she won’t be able to E off of that and will have to rebuild her stacks to stun. Try to always avoid giving her 3 free stacks, as this will easily allow Renekton to avoid her strengths and punish her trading patterns. Sejuani passive also allows her to gain additional armour, which stays up in combat for 3 seconds. When playing against Sejuani you should try to use your Q to proc her passive, then wait out 3 seconds until it wears off, doing this allows you to find your trade opportunities as well as allowing you to easily all in or hard force damage against her. Do note her passive comes up every 12-6 seconds, so make sure you consistently play to remove her passive to remove her laning power.
- 05
Avoid Sejuani Q - Sejuani Q is basically a 2 part ability, where her first and second hits individually proc her frozen passive, allowing her to quickly stun and chunk her target. As Renekton, with short in and out clicks we can essentially bait it out her Q, which automatically loses her strong trading ability into Renekton. Renekton can also use his dashes to avoid Sejuani 2nd hit of Q, so if you’re unable to dodge her Q you can use that to reposition away and deny her a passive stack.
- 06
Avoid Sejuani W - Sejuani E is similar to Gragas E, where she will use it to deny Renekton’s E trades, or she will use it to initiate her trades with her passive, in her ability to abuse grasp and short trades. Typically if we’re in the middle of the lane, Sejuani might force her E to trade against Renekton, however we can bait it out by doing short in and out clicks to force her to E. If she E’s and we successfully dodge, we can hard punish Sejuani and look to heavily trade her.
- 07
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.
- 08
Avoid Sejuani R - Sejuani R is a great ability to catch out her opponents, while also providing her a clear win condition within the mid to late game. As the game progresses Sejuani’s role turns into more of a R and peel bot for her team, so with that said playing away from her R or tanking it for the team is a giant role in being able to counter it. Make sure when side laning vs Sejuani you manage to ward your side bushes, otherwise she can commit with R and force a pick with her teammates. Renekton can also use his dashes to effectively escape Sejuani’s R if played right.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - As we previously mentioned, Sejuani’s overall role is more limited compared to other tanks as she focuses more on single targets, rather than having lots of AoE stuns or zoning defensive abilities for her team. Sejuani’s objective is essentially starting a fight with her R, while using her remaining CC to lock down her targets to obtain her kills. Renekton’s job in the game is to always spot Sejuani, using wards or pings to notify your team where her whereabouts are. If you can take away Sejuani’s fog of war advantage, she will not be able to look for picks with her R, losing her overall power and objective within the game. Within teamfights, Renekton’s role can be either used to utilise empowered E onto Sejuani’s high armour, while playing to peel and protect his carries, or he can play to jump on the backline and play to distract and one shot her carries. Renekton’s overall role is a lot more flexible against Sejuani, so make sure to play to your skirmishing and teamfight strengths while avoiding Sejuani’s pick potential.
