Matchup Summary

The whole objective vs Akshan, is simply surviving his aggression with D Shield and Second Wind, while trying to keep the wave on your side of the map. Playing the wave on your side will allow you to easily catch Akshan with your quick combos, as well as run him down post level 6 with Plated Steelcaps. Within the mid game, make sure to avoid giving him kill resets to revive his team, you can prevent him by either jumping on him solo or communicating with your team to focus him first.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Play For Sustain Early - Early on in the laning phase, Akshan’s oppressive playstyle can prevent Renekton from being able to be aggressive, as Akshan’s damage and early mobility are pretty hard to deal with. Wait until level 3 to be aggressive, try to keep your HP up and wait for the minion wave to crash on your side before trying to do any trades. Make sure to utilise D Shield and Second Wind to help you combat against Akshan’s early oppression.

  2. 02

Avoid Akshan Passive + PTA Proc - Akshan’s main source of damage comes out of his 3 hit passive, where Akshan will do burst damage and obtain movement speed procing his passive, as well as abusing PTA for additional proc damage. As previously mentioned, play for sustain and try to avoid getting hit by his 3 hits, make sure to wait for it to wear off before looking for trading patterns.

  3. 03

Avoid Akshan Or Punish Akshan E - Akshan E is another big ability that allows him to deal a ton of damage onto his targets, while also providing mobility to out space away from his opponents. As Renekton you want to make sure to avoid standing near walls, if Akshan can aggressively use it to chunk you out early. However, if you’re looking to fight Akshan with your powerspikes, make sure to walk in and hit your E1 or E2 to cancel his E. If any champion interacts with his E hitbox, this can instantly cancel the ability and leave Akshan in a horrible situation.

  4. 04

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  5. 05

Ping Akshan’s Roams - After Akshan’s first few levels, Renekton will start to gain the upper edge after his first back. Akshan’s win condition is simply to roam and utilise his scoundrel passive, to help provide utility and finish off any champions with his R or overall damage. Akshan can be utterly disgusting when it comes to roams as he can stealthy gank with his W, on top of also being able to revive his teammates, cheating the overall time to punish death timers. Try to spam ping as much as you can if Akshan roams, try to also provide control wards within the river to spot Akshan roams. Try to also punish Akshan’s roams with wave crashes, as this will help you gain XP and Gold to put him behind even harder.

  6. 06

Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.

  7. 07

Rush Plated Steelcaps - Rushing Plated Steelcaps allows you to lower Askhan’s overall damage, while also being able to consistently stick onto Akshan allowing you to obtain kills on him. Once you have these you’re essentially allowed to do any combos and even all in’s after Akshan makes a mistake, so make sure to rush these to make the lane a lot easier.

  8. 08

Avoid Akshan R - Akshan R can be a great tool to snipe off low HP targets, as this can help him utilise respawning his teammates, on top of also using it to finish off anyone that is low. If you’re in a teamfight, try to block it if you’re tanky enough to help save your teammates, otherwise try to avoid it by using minions, towers or teammates to block the shots if you’re low.

  9. 09

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.

  10. 10

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Akshan’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

  11. 11

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Within the mid game, Akshan’s main priority will be trying to snipe off carries with his W stealth and high scaling damage. In each fight against Akshan your priority will be trying to protect your low HP carries, otherwise Akshan will be able to secure revives, which overall can doom the entire leverage you gain from killing his teammates. Whenever you have the opportunity, simply jump on him as fast as possible to eliminate him from the fights so he is unable to apply his mass utility and damage against your carries.
