Aphelios
Matchup Summary
Aphelios is one of the more useless ranged laners Renekton can play against, as his weak stats and scaling damage is simply too weak to deal with Renekton. You can basically kill Aphelios any time the wave is on your side of the map, allowing you to dash in and burst him every chance you get. Within the late game Aphelios's damage scales very high, forcing you to be more cautious with how you play. If Aphelios has his blue gun, make sure to always respect his overall damage, as he can one shot people with his Q and R later on in the game. Try to wait for him to use his ammo on blue gun before looking for any major fights within this stage of the game.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Aphelios you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Aphelios lose a lot more.
- 03
Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.
- 04
Respect Aphelios’s Guns - There’s a lot to cover when talking about Aphelios, but essentially the way to think about it is just respect the utility and strengths each of the guns provide. If Aphelios has his green gun, he will try to hard poke and play off his high range. If Aphelios has his red gun, he will play to sustain his HP. If Aphelios has his Blue gun, he will use it to wave clear or play more aggressively with its high damage and ult burst. If Aphelios has his Purple gun, he will use it to provide utility in the form of its slow and CC. If Aphelios has his White gun he will use it to set up turrets to AoE, or utilise his high attack speed synergy with other guns. There’s really a lot of intricacies that go into what he can also do with them together, but all you need to understand is that much later on in the game, playing around his white, blue and purple gun, are all that really matter. Earlier on Aphelios doesn’t really have any deterring strengths to make Renekton worries, so utilise your early game and overpower him while you can.
- 05
Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.
- 06
Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the abiltiy to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.
- 07
Respect Aphelios’s Purple Gun - Aphelios’s only real threat in theory, is the ability to use his purple gun to help him lock down Renekton, in combination with fighting with his team. Try to avoid getting caught out by Aphelios’s team with his purple gun, otherwise he will completely make you irrelevant with your team, so make sure to play off winning conditions and not provide Aphelios with free gold to scale into a monster.
- 08
Respect Aphelios R - Everytime Aphelios has R, he is able to provide mass AoE in the form of his abilities, each R hit with a specific gun will empower his overall gun and R effects. Try to avoid his R by E’ing out of range of the animation, or try to block it for your team if you’re tanky enough. The only real guns you need to worry about for his mass AoE, is his purple and blue gun, which both provide mass utility and high damage.
- 09
Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - If you get to mid game vs Aphelios, he will most likely be giga behind as he’s really unable to sustain any kind of a lead into Renekton within solo lane. If Aphelios is even or gets a lead, make sure to play with caution and respect what guns he has. Once Aphelios runs out of blue or green gun ammo, you can play to abuse his bad set of guns as he will be at his weaker points within that stage of the game. In teamfights you can essentially eradicate him with ease in a fight, due to the reason that Aphelios doesn’t really have high enough base stats or build options to survive vs Renekton. Within fights, try to focus him if he is a strong carry for his team, otherwise if he is behind focus his other carries as that will be mostly important to winning against his team.
