Ashe
Matchup Summary
Ashe is a suprisingly a very good pick into Renekton within the early game, as Ashe's ability to punish Renekton with her auto attack slows makes it difficult to get winning trades. As Renekton, you want to make sure you play the wave state on your side of the map, as this takes away Ashe's power to run you down with her passive. Renekton must also try to get a gank or reach level 6 if he wants to assert dominance within the lane. Once Renekton meets these conditions, Renekton can practically steamroll Ashe within 1v1's, allowing him to have a much better mid game phase. When playing vs Ashe, try to avoid taking her R hits, as this can provide her team the shutdown potential needed to stop Renekton.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Play For Sustain Early - I personally learned the hard way in this match up, as trying to opt into E start or any aggressive plays simply leaves you 6 feet under Ashe. With that said, respect the first few levels as her poke in combination with her slow is really a terrifying and annoying combo. Make sure to abuse D Shield and Second Wind to out sustain and nullify her poke.
- 02
Respect Ashe’s Poke - To elaborate further on the Ashe lane, early on it is incredibly hard to even trade against her, this is due to the reason that once you finish a combo Ashe can abuse approach velocity with her slow to run you down with auto attacks. Until you’re able to purchase boots, try to keep the wave on your side of the map, this presents you the opportunity to take safer trades to whittle Ashe’s HP down, on top of the fact she also cannot run you down.
- 03
Rush Plated Steelcaps or Swiftness Boots - Honestly both boot choices are pretty good, picking between each just depends on what you prefer overall. I personally would play to lower her overall damage while looking to do short combos, setting up a level a kill around the 30% HP range, or simply waiting till level 6 to help me stat check and lower her overall power in her pick. With that said I’d opt into Plated Steelcaps, but you can go Swiftness if you’re able to snowball the lane and you want to opt into a heavy burst build to completely nullify the Ashe pick.
- 04
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 05
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 06
Play For Ganks - This match up can certainly be difficult before level 6, however Renekton can provide good gank setup if his junglers play around him. Ashe has no tools to escape ganks, so play off your side of the map and ping your jungler to come and gank when she is over extended. Getting ganks will help you snowball the match up with ease, so make sure to let your jungler know.
- 07
Avoid Ashe R - Ashe’s R is a great tool to pick off her opponents, allowing her to obtain free kills for her team, overall allowing her to setup for objectives or wave pushes for towers. Make sure that every time you’re recalling you recall in a safe position, try to look at the shop once you’re in base just in case Ashe R hits you without looking. Try to use your E or movement to avoid Ashe R, making her miss her R loses a lot of utility for fights. In 1v1’s, the closer you are to Ashe, the easier it is to break out of her R early, with that said don’t worry if she hits it up close.
- 08
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Ashe's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.
- 10
Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Ashe outside of lane Ashe is relatively weak and very team dependent, with that Ashe’s aim is to play off her E vision utility or her R’s to help her catch targets and try to posture for objectives. As Renekton, as previously mentioned you do not want to give over free kills towards her or try to get picked off before any objectives, so make sure you safely avoid Ashe R and try to avoid fighting her with other team members. When it comes to team fights, you can easily shut down Ashe if you get the jump on her, however if she is already behind or even, you can afford to ignore her to focus a stronger target on her team. As mentioned Ashe is more of a utility carry until much later, so make sure to focus on the right enemy win condition to win the fights.
