Matchup Summary

Aurelion Sol is a pretty easy match up to snowball against early, as Renekton can use his dashes and stun to help him cap close and cancel Aurelion Sol's ways of escaping. Within the lane, you can kill Aurelion Sol in 2 trades, eventually being one if you're snowballing or have your main damage spike items. Aurelion's real threat grows the later the game gets, so try to win hard early and use your lead until Aurelion Sol scales with his passive.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Aurelion Sol you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Aurelion Sol lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Respect Aureion Sol’s Passive - The main factor that makes Aurelion Sol a threat is based within his passive. The way his passive works is that he gains stardust for each time he hits an ability onto his enemies, meaning throughout the game he can infinitely obtain stardust stacks. Alongside this after reaching certain stacks he is able to upgrade his abilities to improve their damage, range or radius of the ability. Make sure to put Aurelion Sol behind early, do everything you can to obtain kills, try to snowball your lead to deny him from CS and abuse your early to mid game as much as you can.

  4. 04

Respect Aurelion Sol’s Q - Aurelion Sol’s main source of being able to deal damage revolves around his Q ability. The way Aurelion’s Q works is that he can activate it as long as he wants, as well as dealing bonus damage for each second he has it activated onto his target. Depending on the game’s length, Aurelion’s Q also scales based on his passive stacks, meaning he is able to deal up to a target's Maximum HP based on how many stacks he has. Overall this ability should be the main focus when fighting around Aurelion, as Renekton you can easily play around this by walking out of range of the ability, or you can initiate aggressive trades to easily overpower Aurelion Sol’s weak early game. When fighting you can also walk on top of him and move around him to help you mess up his Q positioning, forcing him to either cancel or slowly move it to hit you.

  5. 05

Play Around Aurelion Sol’s W - Aurelion Sol’s W allows him to fly up to a certain distance, presenting him the ability to roam to other lanes or escape troubling situations. When you’re laning against Aurelion, typically if you try to E in he will attempt to use W to escape. Make sure that once he starts his W animation that you use your own W to cancel it out. Cancelling his W means Aurelion Sol is forced to fight an all in that he simply cannot win, overall presenting you the ability to kill him. This tip is pretty crucial to obtaining your kills on him in the lane, so make sure to abuse him when he tries to escape your trades.

  6. 06

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  7. 07

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  8. 08

Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  9. 09

Ping And Ping Aurelion Sol’s Roams - As I previously mentioned, Aurelion Sol will utilise his W to either escape or use it to also roam the map. Aurelion Sol has a great flank setup with, as he is able to use his Q while flying on top of also being able to use his R, which presents a gigantic opportunity to shake up the fights in his favour. Try to ping his roams and try to also abuse this by crashing the wave, with the objective to receive plates and incoming minion waves. If Aurelion Sol doesn’t get anything and he’s returning top, you can simply zone him off the tower or look to kill him in between his tier 1 and 2.

  10. 10

Respect Aurelion Sol R - Aurelion Sol’s R power through the game changes based on how many stardust stacks he has, if Aurelion receives enough stacks to charge his R then he’s able to upgrade his ability to create a large shockwave, which provides a knock up and increased damage. In these moments try to avoid getting hit in the sweet spot of his R, also try to avoid fights with him unless you’re able to jump on him successfully, before he is able to R or making him simply waste its value.

  11. 11

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

  12. 12

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Aurelion Sol's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  13. 13

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Your overall objective vs Aurelion Sol is simply to use your early to mid game lead over him. After securing your lead vs him, simply try to roam the map and utilise your lead to get your teammates ahead as well as securing every objective you can. Aurelion Sol takes a while to scale into the game, try to avoid getting caught by him and his team, as shut downs can really spiral him into a snowball if he is able to secure them. When it comes to fights, try to single him out by dashing onto him with the aim of one shotting him out the fight, or if he isn’t strong enough, simply focus his strong carries and make sure to distract or remove them from the fight so they cannot utilise Aurelion Sol’s R utility.
