Blitzcrank
Matchup Summary
Blitzcrank has no chance at beating Renekton, due to Renekton's high stats and consistent amount of damage. Blitzcrank's slow animations and high mana costs prevent Blitzcrank from having any winning exchanges, making it a complete troll pick. Whenever you keep the wave on your side, Blitzcrank is only forced to overextend, forcing him to die any moment you engage on him. The only strength Blitzcrank has, is that he will try to roam and find picks with his team. With that said, try to avoid getting grabbed and try to take fights when you're grouped with your team.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Respect Blitzcrank Invade - Blitzcrank’s only real early leverage to gaining a lead over Renekton, is simply looking for an invade play with his team and trying to catch anyone out. Try to ping your teammates level 1 to cover all 5 points of entry on your side of the map, as doing this will deny any attempts for him to force an invade on vision. DO NOT AFK level 1 too, if Blitz is behind you don’t be afraid to use flash or skill E to avoid his hook and waste his flash.
- 02
Level 1 Q or E Start - As mentioned through other notes, playing off Q and E both require different plays, however in this match up you can essentially do either of them and have pretty good success. With that said, play around the strengths of level 1 and look for a level 2 kill.
- 03
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Blitzcrank you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Blitzcrank lose a lot more.
- 04
Play For Manaburn - The main problem with Blitzcrank solo lane is that he needs to force mana items to make him useful, therefore losing a lot of damage from his AP or AD builds. Simply try to do heavy trades and force him to use mana from his E and Q. His damage is nowhere close to scary so forcing any trades onto him will leave him in a panic, which will use him expend a lot of mana to save himself. Abuse his low mana to force advantageous positions of proxying, diving or forcing resets.
- 05
Respect Mana Passive - Blitzcrank’s mana passive can be pretty surprising in 1v1’s, typically whenever Blitz opts into more mana he can also create a giant shield for himself. Whenever Blitz is low, you can aim to hold your empowered W or use your next empowered W to completely shred Blitz shield and instantly nuke him to death.
- 06
Abuse Renekton's Waveclear - A giant advantage Renekton has within this match up, is his overall ability to easily clear minion waves. This can help him achieve perfect tempo resets, or allow him to proxy waves to help increase his gold lead, while also hostaging the enemy top laner under their own tower. Being able to fast clear also forces the enemy into contesting push, allowing you to easily mana burn and create advantageous positions from it. Abuse this strength to cheat out bad laning situations, or increase your overall power within the game.
- 07
Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.
- 08
Ping Blitzcrank Roams - Blitzcrank essentially cannot do anything in the Renekton match up, no matter how he plays it he will always be at a disadvantage. Instead Blitzcrank’s only play making opportunity will come from his roams and teamplay actions. Try to ping Blizcrank’s roams as much as you can, try to always ping your team from walking into fog of war, otherwise it will present Blitzcrank free picks and the ability to come back in the game.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.
- 10
Midgame + Teamfighting Tips - Blitzcrank’s mid to late game objective is essentially to look for Q grab plays, in order for his team to look for picks then look for the ability to force objectives or pushes onto his opposing team. With that said, try to avoid Blitzcrank Q as much as possible (Especially Isolated or walking into fog of war) as these can really change the tides of the game and allow his team to get even more ahead or to comeback. When directly in a fight, try to ignore Blitzcrank and force your engages onto his team. Killing his carries will present Blitz with less opportunities for plays.
