Matchup Summary

Cassiopeia's early game can be really threatening if you play into her game, which revolves around tanking her Q posion or walking yourself into her W or R. When playing vs Cassiopeia, using your movement is vital to avoiding her Q, allowing you to take more up front burst trades, as well as allowing you to bait out her own W if you use E more creatively. Taking Doran's Shield and Second Wind, also provide you the sustain and HP to help survive her damage, while also providing you the stat checking ability to shut her down. At level 6, Renekton can win any up close fights if he's able to avoid being slowed by her W, as well as doding her R by looking away on the cast. If Cassio fails to utilise her kit, Renekton will be able to over run her and beat her within any side laning fights. Within the mid to late game, avoid being caught by Cassio's Flash R combo by paying attention towards her positioning.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Play For Sustain Early - Within the Renekton vs Cassiopeia match up, Renekton simply needs to play to keep his HP up within the start of the laning phase, with his overall objective simply trying to get level 3 or his first back to overall assert dominance with the laning phase. Try to play around D Shield and Second Wind to maintain sustain within the laning phase, try to also avoid tanking Cassio Q’s to avoid her empowered E and poison trades.

  2. 02

Respect Cassio’s Q - When Cassio hits her Q, she is able to obtain a burst of movement speed, additional damage with her E and she is able to heal from her target. With that said, it is absolutely vital to utilise your movement to bait out her Q’s and use your dashes to avoid her receiving any additional damage. You can potentially try to bait out Cassio Q by doing short clicks in and out, or trying to walk up to minions then walking back. These little subtleties can help you find trading patterns to help you abuse her.

  3. 03

Rush Hexdrinker or Mercury Treads - Personally this depends overall, but if you’re worried about Cassio’s damage and the way you’re playing, then going either is a pretty good option to help you survive within the match up. I like to opt more into Eclipse rush personally, but as mentioned this is just if you feel the lane isn’t going your way.

  4. 04

Avoid And Punish Cassio’s W - Cassiopeia’s W is considered to be one of the worst abilities to play around as Renekton, mainly due to the reason she can completely lock you out from being able to dash. As Renekton, we can cheese her W by baiting it out with our dashes, where we can easily E in and quickly E out, with the intention of putting it on its 24 second CD. After W is on CD, we can look to abuse it within its downtime to look for kill attempts.

  5. 05

Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash. Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  6. 06

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  7. 07

Avoid Extended Fights - Cassio is a match up where we simply just want to play solely off our ability CDs, otherwise tanking her damage can be a giant detriment in being able to overpower and win the lane. Try to play off your trading patterns and only look for the all in if she has no W, or she is 40% HP from quick trades.

  8. 08

Respect And Avoid Cassio’s R - This personally is one of my favourite abilities to outplay within the game, as it can completely change the tides of a 1v1 or teamfight against Cassiopeia. Most typically when fighting Cassio post level 6, you need to essentially read the situation clearly to know when she is going to R. If you engage on Cassio and she’s trying to kite or run you down, she will try to look for R if you’re directly facing her, meaning that if you can quickly click in the opposite direction, she will miss the ability in being able to stun you, therefore losing the fight against Renekton. This ability is absolutely crucial to avoid, doing this simply will allow you to win the fights against Cassio, as long as you also avoid her Q in the process. Try to also respect her flash R, which she will most likely use if you’re low or if she’s looking to AoE stun within a teamfight.

  9. 09

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.

  10. 10

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Cassio's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  11. 11

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - When it comes to Cassiopeia’s mid game role, she will most likely look to split push, with the overall ability of wanting to farm for her power items as well as looking for duels with yourself or weaker teammates. Depending on how the match up went, you can either look to solo kill her repetitively, or you should use your teammates to help shut her down if she’s fed. Cassio is relatively easy to shut down if there’s multiple people, as long as people don’t play into her Q, and can cut her off reliably. When it comes to teamfights, Cassio’s role is essentially playing off her flash timer and looking to mass AoE stun her opponents. As Renekton, you want to try hard to avoid her flash R stun, by trying to look away or simply positioning yourself to distract Cassio’s other carries. Cassio’s overall damage isn’t enough to 1v9 a fight, so if you’re able to jump onto her carries and shut them down, then Cassio’s overall role weakens as a result.
