DR.Mundo
Matchup Summary
DR Mundo can be pretty difficult the later the game gets, forcing you to optimally play the laning phase to a tee. Renekton must force Mundo over comitting on his side of the map, while Renekton should look to use his E > W trades to get rid of Mundo's passive. Renekton should go for any trade as soon as Mundo uses Q, as Renekton can reliably avoid taking the damage, as well as being able to reach him without being slowed. Once Mundo has no passive, Renekton can go for a heavy trade to help him one shot Mundo. Make sure to not waste your entire damage on Mundo's W if he has it active, instead wait for it to go on CD then use your damage right after. Make sure when playing vs Mundo you go healing reduction such as Executioners or Ignite, as they allow you to have the damage to lower his overall healing. Try to rush BoTRK when you're vs Mundo, as this allows you to nuke his HP bar up as soon as he enters range, providing you the ability to force dives or bait out his R. Once Mundo has Warmogs, Renekton should have taken first tower with the intention of roaming the map and using his lead to dominate the game before Mundo gets his items.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2. When playing against Mundo try to E when Mundo uses Q, as he won’t have the damage to stop you from out trading you.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - After chunking out Mundo, we can take W and look to utilise a heavy trade. If you have played the level 1 optimally, we will be able to double dash onto Mundo with empowered E, followed by our Empowered W. This damage alongside ignite will simply kill mundo, or leave him low enough to dive right after.
- 03
Avoid Mundo’s Q - Mundo’s Q absolutely HURTS if you get hit by it, so make sure to avoid it in every way possible. Try to time your combos around Mundo’s Q, as this will allow you to tank 1 Mundo Q max, always allowing you to get the upper hand in early fights. Alternatively, when playing against Mundo, utilising lots of clicks to avoid his cleavers is very much needed to help you bait his cleavers out, as well as utilising minions to help you block them.
- 04
Play Around Mundo’s Passive - Mundo’s passive is essentially what we need to pay attention towards when it comes to our fights. If Mundo has his passive, typically we want to look for a short trade to get rid of it, as getting rid of it in our next trade will allow us to commit a lot harder, while also presenting an easy time to CC him down alongside our teammates. Within the lane, Mundo’s passive can also drop him a vial that heals him and refunds a large amount of CD of his passive. Try to walk or dash over his passive to deny him from picking it up, as this will hard cut his survivability against Renekton.
- 05
Respect Mundo’s W - Mundo’s W is a very underrated tool in being able to help him survive against burst champions. Mundo W can refund his missing HP within his grey bar, allowing him to tank a lot of Renekton’s damage in heavy trades. Most typically, if we play our first combo to get rid of Mundo’s passive, we are able to also bait out his W, allowing us to abuse around his 17 second to look for a combo under his tower if we opt into playstyles such as W Max. Within a fight we can also opt into holding our damage until his W goes off CD, we can choose to do this if we have a kill threat into Mundo and he’s overextended within the lane.
- 06
Rush BoTRK - Rushing BoTRK is absolutely essential in being able to deal with Mundo’s high HP playstyle, as Mundo opts into going 3 Giant’s belts, Warmogs and Heartsteal., Renekton needs to have BoTRK to easily one shot through the majority of his HP, allowing himself to kill Mundo fast enough before he ults, or allows for his teammates to finish off the kill. When Mundo does get Warmogs he will try to force you into playing around his healing passive, which does create a big counter in being able to obtain kills onto him, with that said try to only force fights if you know you can kill him for sure.
- 07
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 08
Bait Or Counter Mundo R - Mundo’s R is an absolutely crazy ability that will allow him to easily cheese his way through surviving most things thrown at him, making it an absolutely game changing ability if played correctly. Something that Renekton can do once he has BoTRK, is considering that you can force harder trades, Renekton can easily shred him into his low HP threshold, allowing him to easily bait Mundo’s R. Within that time of baiting out Mundo R, we can use it to posture a more aggressive play if we have the HP for that, or nullify Mundo’s R from an important moment within the game.
- 09
3 Points Q > W Max - W Max against Mundo is severely strong as we’re able to consistently abuse W’s raw power, as well as utilising BoTRK more effectively through its on hit power. In terms of playing vs Mundo, firstly we can knock his passive with a regular W, followed by another W within our 7-4 second CD time frame, allowing us to force more aggressive trades to create kill opportunities. As the game progresses, having more W’s is absolutely key to holding off Mundo’s relentless Push playstyle within the side lane or trying to get towards your teammates.
- 10
Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.
- 11
Mid Game + Teamfighting - Mundo’s role within the later stages of the game is to become an absolute gigantic meat shield with his ever lasting HP scaling, on top of his insane HP regen from his R and Warmogs passive. Before Mundo is able to reach up towards 7k+ HP, your objective should be to absolutely dominate the map before he comes online, so each time there’s an objective such as Dragon or an opportunity to take towers and spread your lead, that’s exactly what you should be prioritising to as Mundo cannot contest without his 2 item spikes. When it comes to teamfights, Mundo shouldn’t really be a priority, as killing his carries holds a lot more weight than trying to shred through Mundo’s HP. With that said, try to one shot his carries in fights before fighting Mundo, or alternatively if you have to play a peel role, try to use empowered E's and W’s to apply the utility need to shut him down.
