Hecarim
Matchup Summary
Hecarim is one of the easiest match ups for Renekton, simply due to his weak ability to lane within modern league as well as Renekton's damage being way too high for him to deal with. When playing vs Hecarim, try to avoid fighting him with your abilities down, as his Q stacked damage can help him out trade Renekton within the early stages of the lane. Once reaching level 3, Renekton can dictate all trades onwards within the game, completely taking away Hecarim's ability to do anything. Hecarim's only role within the mid to late game is looking for E and R engages onto your squishier teammates. As Renekton, we can use our W to completely stop Hecarim from fully utilising his engage, providing him as a free target to kill with our teammates.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Respect Hecarim’s Q - Hecarim's main playstyle and source of damage comes from his Q ability. His Q deals AOE style damage which stacks up 3 times as well as the cooldown being lowered on each stack. As long as you don't heavily overtrade early into his Q, Hecarim won't really have an answer for your early game, so make sure to keep the fights short and play off your abilities to maintain consistent success..
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Hecarim you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Hecarim lose a lot more.
- 03
Abuse Hecarim’s Mana Issues - Hecarim’s solo lane has been pretty terrible for years, mainly due to the reason that his base mana and mana costs are just not suitable for top lane these days. Hecarim’s base mana usually gets consumed by his Q and his W abilities, as both are great combat and sustain tools within the lane. The problem for Hecarim however, is that the biggest issue within the Renekton match up, is the fact he has to use all his abilities at once in order to survive, making him quite a helpless target for Renekton to snowball off. Being that Hecarim has to defensively use his abilities to try and survive, this substantially burns his mana leaving him in a terrible position if Renekton plays to either dive or freeze minion waves.
- 04
Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.
- 05
Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.
- 06
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 07
Respect Hecarim’s R - The only thing you really need to care about within this match up is Hecarim's gank or teamfighting setup. If Hecarim can play off a CC jungler correctly, they can potentially lock you from being able to use abilities and punish you for overextending within the lane or their territory of the map. Try to avoid this by making sure to ward and deny Hecarim from this opportunity, limiting his overall options in being able to play the game.
- 08
Ping Hecarim Roams - As already mentioned, Hecarim R is a giant utility tool that can allow him to get back into the game. With that said, he can also roam towards mid lane or any objectives and use R to help his team win the fights. Simply Ping his roams out before he is able to make these plays happen.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Hecarim's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Midgame + Teamfighting Tips - At this point within the game, Hecarim's only real threat and overall objective is to simply look for a Ghost R play onto your backline. Doing this will result in Hecarim’s ability to mass CC your team, providing himself plenty of burst and consistent damage through his high movement speed playstyle. As Renekton, shutting down a Hecarim is actually pretty easy, as Renekton’s W alone can completely lock Hecarim from engaging, or simply try to disengage. Try to burst him down as fast as you can, you can do this if he’s trying to initiate first onto your team, with that you can just target your W stun onto him and make quick work of him relatively easy. Overall Hecarim really isn’t that big of a threat, especially within his full damage build, which makes this overall gameplan really easy to stick to. The only other thing he will try to play for, is trying to engage on isolated picks that are overextended. With that in mind, try to always spam ping your teammates away from the fog of war territories if he isn’t on the map, as this will be the only play making opportunity he will be able to do.
