Matchup Summary

Ivern is a very easy match up, as Ivern's laning phase is pretty non existant into Renekton. Renekton can force freezes on his side of the map to force Ivern to overextend, as well as deny him from any reliable way to farm. Renekton can basically do whatever he wants in this match up, allowing him to get an easy lead and win the game. Make sure when teamfighting that you focus his Daisy first, as this allows you to remove his CC threat to help you win fights effortessly.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Ivern you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Ivern lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  4. 04

Avoid Ivern Q - Ivern’s Q isn’t really much of a threat when it comes to laning vs Renekton, however the gank setup Ivern Q can provide can definitely be lethal when it comes to ganks. Try to always ward up and avoid fighting multiple people without a lead, as one Ivern Q in combination with enemy high burst and CC, can overall lead to your own demise. When trying to avoid Ivern Q use your movement and your dashes to avoid his Q, as missing this essentially gives him no other play making opportunities to stop or deter Renekton from fighting him.

  5. 05

Abuse Renekton's W Shieldbreak - Ivern’s W is one of his strongest tools, as it provides a pretty decent sized shield with moderate damage and a slow built into it. Using it on allies in combination with his supportive items can really make a huge difference for Ivern, in his ability to consistently apply any shields and counter any burst damage. As Renekton we want to prioritise any targets with Ivern shield with our Empowered W, as this can easily nuke the shield and remove all additional value his items can provide. Alternatively, with how much of a lower CD it gets, you can opt into maxing W after 3 points in Q to always ensure you have enough W’s to shred as many shields as possible.

  6. 06

Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.

  7. 07

Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  8. 08

Respect Ivern R - Ivern’s R low key is a very strong ability mainly due to the fact that compared to most pets within the game, Ivern’s offers a ton of utility through its knock ups, fast damage and overall thickness, to block or tank any incoming abilities. As Renekton, if he pulls out his R we should always opt towards killing it, as his ult can be very annoying when it comes to duels or teamfights. If Ivern R isn’t an option to stop within the fights, then try to hard focus Ivern down and nuke him from the fight to instantly kill off his R and overall utility.

  9. 09

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Ivern's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  10. 10

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Ivern’s role within the mid to late game is to essentially focus on hard protecting his carry teammates, while using his R and W to hard peel against any incoming threats within a fight. Renekton’s role against Ivern is either focusing his Daisy before any fights snowball into anything bigger, or trying to instantly nuke his carry targets with an empowered W. Ivern’s overall threat is definitely big if he has multiple support items, however if you can coordinate with your team to jump on his main carries, Ivern will not be able to have the utility to fully support them alone, furthermore making him useless in losing fights as he lacks any hard carry potential compared to a lot of other top lane picks. Alternatively, we can look to play for picks if his team is ahead, or utilise our strong split pushing power as he struggles to control and defend sidelane vs Renekton.
