Matchup Summary

The Jayce match up is pretty even when it comes to playability, revolving around Renekton keeping his HP up with Doran's Shield and Second Wind, while using bushes and abusing his form switches to find trading windows. Level 1, Renekton can take E start with PTA, allowing him to heavy trade Jayce for the PTA activation, then using E2 to disengage away from him. By level 2, Renekton can kill jayce with Empowered W and forcing another E trade. When playing vs Jayce, make sure to keep the wave on your side to create quick trading opportunities, as well as making him a gankable target. Renekton can use combos like E Q W, to quickly buffer his damage against Jayce's E. Whenever Jayce switches from Melee > Cannon form, Renekton should look to instantly abuse this window to force his damage, as Jayce's lack of consistent damage and stats makes him a very killable target. Through the later stages of the game, Jayce's damage massively ramps up to help him become a heavy poke damage champion, forcing you and your team to avoid the damage. Try to look for fights as soon as possible with your team, allowing you to take away he and his team's poke playstyle, providing you the ability to unload your damage and use your lead.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Jayce you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Jayce lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Avoid Jayce Poke - While Jayce’s damage isn’t too high early, it’s the fact Jayce has up to a total of 7 abilities, as well as a range of different passives. Jayce will most often use his ranged form to help poke his opponent down, while he uses his melee form to utilise his burst combo after landing his ranged E Q. Most often Renekton will simply stat check and win early, as long as he uses bushes and abuses D shield and second wind to outsustain Jayce’s aggression, as well as providing a mana burn strategy to weaken Jayce’s approach. You can often also play the lane more aggressively without D Shield and Second Wind combo, however it really depends on you. As long as you stand behind minions, use your movement to avoid his damage and play generally smart, you should have no problem with the lane.

  4. 04

Abuse Jayce Stance Switching - When Jayce switches stances, Jayce most often leaves him within a vulnerable states; Melee Jayce leaves him at the disadvantage of being in Renekton’s melee range, while Ranged Jayce negates his own resistances to play off solely of range. Overall, If Jayce ever tries to engage with his melee form, we can apply our damage before he can knock us away with his E, which right after Jayce will force himself back to ranged form, which should be our target to all in. Ranged form Jayce doesn’t really do any damage early, as he needs to max his Q and obtain Eclipse before he starts hitting hard. With that said, we can use our E and just look to straight up force a fight onto Jayce to abuse his weaker stance, combined by the fact his melee form is on cooldown.

  5. 05

Buffer W Vs Jayce E - A very important trick within the Jayce lane is trying to buffer your own W vs Jayce’s E. Historically, Jayce always had a trick that he could abuse within the Renekton lane, which was using his melee form E as soon as Renekton casts his E animation. While this generally is an annoying problem, most often Jayce players will always try to greed out on damage before using his E, meaning we are able to get our abilities off while we are on top of him. Jayce can do this in very fast succession, so make sure to spam your W as soon as you get out, or try to time your W for his E input. If done successfully, you will be able to trade even with Jayce, as well as stunning him right on his E cast, preventing him switching back to ranged from to use his abilities.

  6. 06

Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.

  7. 07

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  8. 08

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

  9. 09

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Jayce’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.-

  10. 10

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Jayce within the mid game gets exceptionally stronger than he was in the early game, due to him reaching his item powerspikes, alongside maxing his Q and W within this stage of the game. Jayce’s overall playstyle includes shoving waves within the side lane, on top of looking for isolated picks against the opposing teams carries. Jayce’s role consists of playing off his high Q damage in his ranged form, allowing him to whittle down his enemies health while looking to use his melee form burst damage when his enemies are in lethal range. While Jayce’s damage can be pretty threatening, when compared to Renekton his overall role as a teamfighter isn’t that great. When playing against him try to avoid tanking his poke, while actively searching for an engage onto Jayce while he’s in his ranged form. Jayce is always susceptible to one shots when he’s in his ranged form, so try to get your team to engage on him, or look for flash/dash W onto him to help create the engage. Within teamfights, Renekton can easily soak up and block his damage from carries, while also heavily preventing Jayce from abusing his total power within melee range. Try to keep your back line protected, or alternatively try to just one shot Jayce out of the game before teamfights happen.
