Matchup Summary

Lux can be pretty easy to deal with as Renekton as long as you avoid tanking her main abilities, as this allows her to set up her high damage combos or allows her to chunk Renekton out before he can go in for the kill. Essentially your early objective is to play to avoid her damage, while looking for empowered W combos for your engages. Renekton can use his W around the same time he lands on Lux while snared, allowing him to return damage back and set up his combos. Preferably you want to always avoid being hit by Lux's Q, as this will be her main source of peel that will either allow her to get away or find kills. Killing Lux is generally pretty easy, so make sure to ping her whereabouts and try to prevent her from picking up easy kills from either hard shoving, or spam pinging where she is on the map.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Lux you're most likely able to kill her with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Lux lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Respect Lux Poke - Lux’s damage at all points in the game can always hurt, as her ability to easily apply her E, as well as follow up with her Q and passive damage, allows her to deal a lot of damage towards her targets. Being hit by Lux’s stun is usually a death sentence post 6, due to how ridiculous Lux’s damage is. To play vs Lux, we can opt into going D Shield and Second Wind to sustain against her damage if we want to play safe. Lux’s abilities are also pretty easy to avoid, as they’re used within a predictable manner. To easily avoid her abilities, try to use short clicks to move in and out of range, meaning if you’re walking up to her or minions, make sure to click back or to side step any incoming abilities. Once Lux misses her Q or E, Renekton can look to heavily trade against her, forcing a kill or forcing her to recall and waste summoners.

  4. 04

Avoid Lux Q - Lux’s Q allows her to chain all her damage together, making it a critical ability to always avoid. As previously mentioned, we can use our clicking ability to side step Lux’s Q, although if we’re slowed by Lux’s E or any other abilities, Lux’s ability to land her Q becomes a lot easier. If we’re in situations where we cannot dodge Lux’s incoming Q, we should always try to E instantly out of the way, otherwise Lux will potentially one shot us depending on how strong she is. Within the lane, we can also use our dashes to dodge her incoming Q, allowing us to easily reach her and kill her at will. If we play creatively with our E, we can try to use our E as soon as Lux walks into range of last hitting a minion, or we can face our character’s position away, then use our E to quickly double dash behind her. When dashing in this manner, you’re able to avoid Lux’s incoming Q, as she will most likely mistime her ability to use Q, allowing you to land on top of her and easily out damage her.

  5. 05

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  6. 06

Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  7. 07

Ping Lux Roams - Lux’s main focus of snowballing against Renekton, is using her roam timers to roam towards side lanes, allowing her to easily use her R to snipe any low HP targets. Typically Lux can easily get kills without hard roaming towards one lane because of her long range R, allowing her to half commit to a roam. To combat her roaming ability, try to spam ping Lux’s whereabouts if she goes missing to help notify her current status. Renekton’s wave clear can also help keep her from roaming in the lane, or it can help punish Lux if she tries to roam.

  8. 08

Avoid Lux R - As previously mentioned, Lux’s high damage from her R and the rest of her abilities can allow her to instantly delete people from the game. Lux will typically try to land Q > E > R to secure a one shot combo, which she can also use within the fog of war or behind walls, allowing her to easily kill people from mid to high range. Try to always avoid Lux’s combos at all costs, make sure to also use blue trinkets or well placed wards to help track her movements and avoid being caught by her.

  9. 09

Build Mercury Treads, Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Mercury Treads to lower Lux’s overall damage and CC duration. Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Lux's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

  10. 10

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Lux’s overall role within the mid to late game, is looking for picks with the use of her medium to high range abilities, allowing her to instantly delete targets to create opportunities to take objectives. Playing against Lux in solo queue is typically harder than it should be, due to them easily ignoring fog of war points while aimlessly walking towards her without a care in the world. Most of the time, we need to play with the intent of keeping Lux away from our team, or at least spotting her on vision before she’s able to get in range of her team. Using wards to spot her out, or crashing side lanes to help force her to take over is generally advised to keep her occupied. When playing against Lux, we should also try to assassinate her on her roam timers. Once we hard push side lane, we can look to camp her jungle and make sure we can assassinate her before she’s able to rotate towards her team. Within team fights, we should try to avoid being in the line of fire of Lux’s abilities, allowing us to keep our HP up and avoid being bursted down by Lux. Try to look to jump on her with our dashes or flash, then use our high damage combos to help burst her down out of the fight. Once Killing Lux, her team will lose out on a lot of utility and range to help poke her enemies down.
