Matchup Summary

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Play For Sustain Early - Neeko’s early poke and harass is quite problematic when it comes to Renekton’s laning phase, as he’s unable to get the trades he wants, on top of her damage being very high within these moments of the game. Against Neeko, make sure to buy D Shield and Second Wind while playing with the intent to outsustain and mana burn her through the lane. Once Neeko expends lots of mana (From either missing abilities from Renekton baiting them out, outstaining with empowered Q or his overall setup.), Renekton will be able to find the angles he needs to help him successfully lane or kill Neeko.

  2. 02

Respect Neeko’s Shapeshifting Passive - Neeko is able to shapeshift into anything she can interact with in the game. Some of Neeko’s potential shapeshifting targets are jungle camps, minions, plants and her own teammates. With that said, try to always remain skeptical of players or any other unusual activities (Jungle being alive despite camp CD, plants in unusual placements, champions aimlessly walking around with low HP towards enemies, additional melee or caster minion within a minion wave.) Try to always use these hints towards spotting Neeko, as these can deny her of any cheesing attempts within the game.

  3. 03

Avoid Neeko Q Poke - Neeko’s Q allows her to throw her ability, dealing damage up to 3x as long as her Q hits a target. As Renekton, baiting out her Q is very important to help burn her mana, as well as avoiding her main target source of damage. To bait out Neeko Q, we can walk towards her or the minion wave using short in and out clicks to help bait out her Q, allowing us to successfully avoid her damage and allow us to look for a trade right after.

  4. 04

Avoid Damaging Neeko Clone - Neeko will typically force her W as soon as you land on her, creating her clone with the hope of making you waste your damage on it. Once you’re able to dash on top of Neeko, simply wait until she spawns her clone while paying close attention to her original position. Neeko’s close will spawn slightly to the side of her original position, so make sure to stick to the closest target and wait until she uses an ability, or her clone goes on CD before fully committing towards the clone.

  5. 05

Avoid Neeko E - Another important ability Renekton must avoid against Neeko is her E ability. Neeko E allows her to root Renekton if he walks up or dashes towards her, providing a free opportunity for Neeko to burst down Renekton. As previously mentioned, we need to abuse short clicks to help us bait out her E, as if she misses it can present us with the opportunity to always fight back and abuse her. Another way to bait out her E, is trying to use our E when she least expects (E.G: Looking away from her, then casting towards her), followed by side stepping as soon as we finish our animation. Doing this will allow you to dodge her E, providing you the follow up with E2 to help you jump on to her.

  6. 06

Rush Mercury Treads - To make the lane absolutely easy, make sure to abuse Mercury Treads to help you break out of her CC faster, on top of lowering her overall damage to provide you a much easier experience.

  7. 07

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  8. 08

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.

  9. 09

Avoid And Punish Neeko’s R - Neeko’s R is a big ability within 1v1’s or teamfights, allowing her to knock up and burst her enemies. Renekton doesn’t really fear Neeko R, however if you’re low you should always try to avoid being stunned by Neeko as she will most likely R right after it. When fighting Neeko, you can most often look to hold W for her R, as you will be able to shield break her shield

  10. 10

Build Hexdrinker, Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Hexdrinker to lower Neeko's overall damage and have a MR shield. / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Neeko's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  11. 11

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Neeko’s playstyle within the mid to late game, relies off using her cunning shapeshifting abilities to catch out squishy carry targets, while also utilising her overall playmaking potential with her R. Neeko’s overall objective is trying to catch out your teammates, allowing her to secure objectives or towers for her team. When playing vs Neeko, make sure to always double take on minion waves, plant locations and more or less anything she can potentially shape shift to. Neeko’s shape shift is an incredibly high skill ceiling ability, to which most won’t even be able to fully utilise within lower MMR’s, however always remain skeptical and avoid walking into her. Within team fights, try to prevent Neeko’s engage by looking to W her before reaching your team, as this will deny her getting into a favourable position to help her apply damage within the fight. Alternatively, you can also hold W’ing Neeko until her R cast is finished, allowing you to shield break and one shot Neeko through the fight. Overall, denying Neeko of her R is very important, so if you can avoid Neeko’s catch combo with her E, or stun her before she gets into range, this will prevent Neeko from finding her viability and role within a fight.
