Sett
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 Q or E Start - As mentioned through other notes, playing off Q and E both require different plays, however in this match up you can essentially do either of them and have pretty good success. Level 1 with Q you can win against Sett with Conqueror, as you’re able to abuse your AD and low Q CD to kill him. You can also play with E start with PTA, with the intention of looking to trade 3 autos and PTA proc, using your 2nd E to disengage. Make sure to utilise your spacing well, try not to also get hit with his E stun in between minions, as this will allow Sett to heavily trade. With that said, play around the strengths of level 1 and look for a level 2/3 kill.
- 02
Avoid Extended Trades - Sett typically will overpower Renekton within the early portions of the game when it comes to extended trades, as his Q allows his 2nd auto attack to deal additional damage, on top of his Q and E abilities allowing for auto resets and the ability to stun. Utilise your abilities when it comes to trades, try to wait for Sett to pull then look to short trade with AA Q AA W AA E Out. Try to always emphasize using empowered W through trades, and if Sett tries to W early, use your empowered W to break his shield.
- 03
Respect Sett E - Sett E is essentially his only ability that can allow him to force trades, meaning he is very reliant on his E in order to get the correct trading patterns. Before Sett uses E, he will look to either Q then run towards you to pull you towards him, or he will play within his minion wave to use E to help him stun his targets longer. As Renekton, there’s a few ways we can use to play around his E. If Sett runs up into range, we can use our E within to escape his pull, losing him his main ability to apply damage onto us. We can also use W last within our quick combos with either E1 engages or walking up to him. Using W last in combos is important as Sett holds E to cancel Renekton’s disengage, so using W into disengaging with E will allow us to get away from him without being able to pull us back. Overall you just need to play accordingly towards the situation, eventually Renekton post level 6 will be able to consistently tank Sett’s damage without caring too much about his E.

Respect And Avoid Sett’s W - Sett’s W is known for its BS damage, to which when playing vs him we should never sit in front of it and tank it. Against Sett we need to always be moving around him, so constantly click around when fighting him and use our dashes to avoid his E if possible. Alternatively, we can also use our own W to shield break against his W and hard punish Sett if he’s low, which can be the difference in being able to win or lose against him. Utilise W effectively against Sett’s W and he will never have a chance to win vs Renekton. It should also be worth noting Sett can use W flash to surprise kills, so try to avoid staying in low HP range and look to flash if you know he’s going to do it.
- 05
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 06
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 07
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.
- 08
Respect Sett R - Sett’s R can be a great tool in being able to set up giant teamfighting plays with his R into W combo, which can absolutely be cataclysmic if played right. As Renekton, we don’t really need to worry about his R in 1v1, however being near a wall allows his R to deal more damage, on top of being able to position into his W. You can try to buffer your W within his R, by right clicking on the frame of his R, which allows you to input your damage and stun through his R, allowing you to reposition away from his W or killing him on the spot.
- 09
3 Points Q > W Max - W max absolutely destroys Sett’s ability to play against Renekton, as Renekton’s perma stuns allow him to consistently burst out and kill Sett within 2 trades worth of W. Later on Renekton can consistently break through his Sterak’s and W shields, while denying any other attempts for Sett trying to engage onto his team. No matter if you’re playing to in side lane or teamfights, W max provides more play making opportunities to always overpower Sett as a pick.

Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Within the mid to late game, Renekton as a champion is always able to be more versatile against Sett, allowing him to peel or engage for his team. Sett’s role is usually tailored towards looking for a big R, using his R on the tankiest teammate to provide more damage. Once using his R, he will use his W once he charges up his bar, which he will use in that range or look to use W flash. As Renekton, if Sett is behind we can look towards jumping on his carries to distract from Sett’s weak engage, while allowing our teammates to effectively play front to back. If Sett is strong, we should look to hold our W for his W shield, as this will allow us to easily shut him down for our team. Make sure to avoid being Sett’s R target and try to space away from him and your team when he has R up.
