Matchup Summary

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Level 1 Q or E Start - As mentioned through other notes, playing off Q and E both require different plays, however in this match up you can essentially do either of them and have pretty good success. Level 1 with E you can also kill Shaco if he is trying to be aggressive, so make sure to abuse his aggressive and troll nature, then look towards killing him level 2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Shaco, you're most likely able to kill him with Your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Shaco lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Respect Shaco Boxes - Shaco’s boxes are essentially the skill element we need to play around in order to win the match up, as playing successfully into his boxes will give him no play making opportunities whatsoever. As Renekton, our Q can easily deal with his boxes as empowered Q allows us to one shot his boxes, preventing him setting up any traps. Within the lane when Shaco places a box, let the minion wave always move first towards them as this prevents Renekton from being feared and tanking unnecessary damage. As Shaco also places his boxes, make sure to quickly AA Q them, as this will instantly kill the box before stealth, overall ruining his playability. Renekton can also use his E Q trades to instantly kill boxes, while allowing him to gap close towards Shaco.

  4. 04

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  5. 05

Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.

  6. 06

Quick Trades - Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  7. 07

Respect Shaco’s R - Shaco’s R is a great tool to distract and force his opponents into tricky circumstances. Typically Shaco R doesn’t pose much of a problem for Renekton, however if you’re diving Shaco without his Q, make sure to ping or ignite Shaco first, as this will track onto the real Shaco, allowing you to easily one shot the real one. Alternatively, you can also play to bait it out, to easily make the next dive a lot easier.

  8. 08

Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or Profane - Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles and getting his passive easier.

  9. 09

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Shaco’s mid to late game typically depends on how much of a threat he is based on the start of the game, being that AD shaco will typically only be good if he managed to hard snowball early. While AP is similar, Shaco’s overall power comes from how good his box and R usage is, which overall can lead to a lot of clutch and annoying plays. When playing Renekton vs Shaco, Shaco by default should not even exist within the game, however when navigating towards objectives or lanes, make sure to take red trinket to counter his box placement and play around denying them with your Q. Within teamfights, focusing AP shaco shouldn’t really be an option as he will do as much as he can to waste your time, which instead you could use to nuke his team. Simply play with the motive towards killing his carries and ignore him unless the kill is there.
