Detailed Tips

1. 01

   Level 1 Q Start - Try to push for level 2 advantage while poking Skarner with your Q, on level 2 skill E/W use advantage to chunk out Skarner.

   Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Skarner you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Skraner lose a lot more.

   Abuse Renekton's Waveclear - A giant advantage Renekton has within this match up, is his overall ability to easily clear minion waves. This can help him achieve perfect tempo resets, or allow him to proxy waves to help increase his gold lead, while also hostaging the enemy top laner under their own tower. Being able to fast clear also forces the enemy into contesting push, allowing you to easily mana burn and create advantageous positions from it. Abuse this strength to cheat out bad laning situations, or increase your overall power within the game.

   Avoid Skarner E - Skarner’s E is the only ability outside of his R that you need to worry about, as Skarner E can help him stun his targets towards a wall or push them towards his tower. Overall, Skarner E can be dangerous, however it’s only dangerous if we’re hard pushing towards his side of the map. As long as we keep the wave in the middle or towards our tower, Skarner cannot really abuse his E offensively, on top of the fact Renekton can also time his W stun right at the impact of his stun to instantly cancel his E ability.

   Abuse Renekton’s W Shieldbreak - Skarner’s fighting power relies on using Grasp, Q damage and using his W shield, to mitigate against incoming damage. As Renekton, we can easily counter Skarner’s W ability with our own, as we can instantly break his shield and burst him down in the process. Use this within skirmishes or teamfights, to help shred his shield to allow you and your team to do more damage to him.

   Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

   Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

   Avoid Skarner's Full CC Combo - Once Skarner has R, Skarner is able to do some very disgusting CC combos. These combos can be R > E > Q / W Slow or E > R - The purpose of these combos allows him to drag his enemies under towers or towards his team. Skarner’s main purpose within the game is to play off utilising his heavy CC for his teammates, allowing him to easily lock down his targets in combination with his teams CC and damage. Try to avoid these at all costs, by using your E or Flash to dodge his incoming R, or try to avoid getting hit by his E by using your own E. If Skarner never locks you down then you won’t be able to die vs him.

   Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

    Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - As previously mentioned, Skarner’s main role as a pick is to tank for his team, while providing heavy CC in order to catch out his enemies, while using his R and E to drag people towards his teams. If he can always provide vision towards any blind spots, Skarner will struggle trying to use his E through the wall or generally struggle to get the angles he needs to flank for his team. Through fights, Skarner will try to get a huge R off with his flash, or simply try to walk up towards your team. If you avoid Skarner’s R, you can use your W to lock him in place, preventing him from being able to move any ulted targets towards his team. Generally, all you need to do to really beat him is utilising your stuns and empowered E shred to shred through his abundance of armour, as well as stopping him from getting any max value E’s or R’s through a teamfight.
