Matchup Summary

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Smolder level 1, you're most likely able to kill him with Your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Smolder lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  4. 04

Respect Smolder's Passive - Smolder’s passive is essentially the highlight of this match up, as playing incorrectly around denying his passive stacks will leave him completely outscaling you by the 25-30 minute mark. Smolder will obtain stacks by attacking his opponent with his abilities or killing minions with his Q. As Renekton we want to deny smolder by intentionally leaving the wave on our side, with the aim of dashing in and bursting him down each time he is over extended. If you play this way Smolder will struggle to scale and always leave himself for Renekton’s lethal combos. Try your best to end the game as fast as you can after you obtain a lead, otherwise he will comeback hard once he hits 225 stacks.

  5. 05

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  6. 06

Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  7. 07

Respect Smolder's R - Smolder’s R isn’t as hard hitting or impactful as other ults, but nevertheless it can help him a lot when it comes to healing against targets or dealing the right amount of damage to secure kills. Try not to be fighting Smolder with low HP when he has R, as he can easily wipe out your remaining HP. As long as you’re not low, you don’t really have to worry much about his R.

  8. 08

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Smolder's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

  9. 09

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Smolder’s overall scaling is definitely to be feared each step we head into the late game, however for Smolder it takes a lot of time to reach that. Depending on how good you played at putting him behind, Smolder won’t be able to be present within most mid game skirmishes or teamfights, due to the fact he would rather look to stack within the side lane. As Renekton abusing this period in the game is essential to overcoming Smolder’s stacking win condition, meaning that we should try to take every objective and teamfights, doing this will leave his team struggling while he is trying to regain his strength. If there’s no objectives or plays on the map, you can try to just repetitively kill Smolder with a heavy damage or slow based build, which is relatively easy as long as you avoid dying to multiple people around him. In teamfights, simply jump on him and try to cancel his E ability with your stun to stop him from escaping. Smolder when behind or even is pretty easy to kill as Renekton, however if he does have lots of stacks then be very wary of your positioning. Try to get your team to all focus Smolder if he is a threat, with that you will be able to easily shut him down with a W Flash, so make sure to look out for this as a play.
