Sona
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 E Start - Try To Cheese PTA Proc or Conq With E1 > 3 Auto's > Disengage With E2.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Sona level 1, you're most likely able to kill her with Your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Sona lose a lot more.
- 03
Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.
- 04
Respect Sona's Passive - Sona’s passive allows her to obtain an empowered attack after reaching 3 stacks of her passive. Her Q allows her to have bonus damage, her W applies damage reduction and her E massively slows her targets. As Renekton, understanding how she uses her empowered auto attack depends on her current form, in which if she doesn’t damage reduce our combo with her W attack, then we are easily available to one shot her on demand. There’s really not much to this lane outside of understanding this, so respect her W form for dives and you should have no problem.
- 05
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 06
Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.
- 07
Respect Sona's R - Sona’s R can be a pretty good ability if timed right through her team’s CC, allowing her to lock down any targets within front of her. Typically within the lane, Sona’s R doesn’t really do anything to Renekton outside of preventing him from potentially tower diving her if he’s low, but aside from that you can literally ignore her R as an ability until teamfights.
- 08
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Sona's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.
- 09
Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Sona’s role within the mid game is to essentially play around her main carries, trying to consistently peel her carries with her W and E, as well as also trying to form picks with her R. As Renekton, we can easily nuke through targets around Sona, so opting into a full damage build will essentially render Sona completely useless when trying to play around her target. Renekton can either focus her main carry, or try to one shot her from the fight if she is available, so overall you can just play the situation on whatever you think is best and matters the most of that situation within the game.
