Sylas
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 Q or E Start - As mentioned through other notes, playing off Q and E both require different plays, however in this match up you can essentially do either of them and have pretty good success. Level 1 with Q you can also kill Sylas if he is trying to be aggressive. With that said, play around the strengths of level 1 and look for a level 2 kill.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Sylas level 1, you're most likely able to kill him With Your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Sylas lose a lot more.
- 03
Respect Sylas W - Sylas W is a big game changer, as Sylas W allows him to heal more based off his missing HP. With that said, make sure when you’re going for your lethal trades, you apply ignite or healing reduction right at the start of the combo, as he will actively be trying to heal as much as he can. Make sure to also respect Sylas Flash W if you’re low, as he can sustain a lot harder at those points than Renekton can.
- 04
Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.
- 05
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 06
Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.
- 07
Respect Sylas R Steal - Sylas R isn’t so much a problem when it comes to Renekton, but it’s definitely a problem if he steals your teammates ult, which entirely depends on how good it is for the game. For example, if Sylas can steal a Malphite or Soraka R, it can be entirely game changing for a fight with how much utility both provide. Make sure Sylas doesn’t use your team’s high priority R’s within a fight, try to bait them out when fighting him in side lane, or wait till it expires. If Sylas steals Renekton R it basically does absolutely nothing, instead you can force a fight onto him and stat check him harder than he can with your own R.
- 08
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.
- 09
3 Points Q > W Max - This playstyle allows you to constantly have W’s to help you stay onto Sylas while abusing your high damage ratios, allowing you to easily snowball and permanently shutdown Sylas within all stages of the game. Make sure to put 3 points into your early wave clear and poke, then look to max W throughout the rest of your points. Once completed, max your E for additional mobility to help enable your up close stun abusing playstyle.

Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - As previously mentioned, Sylas’s only playability through the game is trying to take a high value R, to help his teammates chances of being able to win a fight. Sylas already struggles hard in a Renekton match up, so most likely his only chance of being relevant is entirely if he gets a good R. That being said, if Sylas is drafted and there’s absolutely 0 R’s for him to take, then he will overall be a lot more useless. But if Sylas does get a good R, try to avoid its desired advantage in the situation its good for, e.g. Malzahar R to stun lock you down, or Kayle R to protect against lethal combos. Within teamfights, Sylas will most likely try to focus down any target carries, by using his R for an engage or trying to straight up jump on them with his E. As Renekton. We can peel against his engage with our W stun, then look to one shot him right after with our team.
