Matchup Summary

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Syndra you're most likely able to kill her with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Syndra lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Play For Sustain Early - Outside of being able to potentially cheese her level 1, Syndra regains lane strength once reaching level 3, by being able to peel Renekton away with her E to prevent any hard trades. When also laning vs Syndra, her low CD poke from her Q allows her to be aggressive and set up her aggressive E and W trades, making her very oppressive. To make matters easier, try to take D Shield and Second Wind to help you sustain, allowing you to mana burn her before Lost Chapter to provide you with any play making opportunities when she’s on low mana.

  4. 04

Respect Syndra BALLS - Respecting Syndra’s big BALLS and tracking where they’re placed is the main skill element of this match up. Depending on where Syndra positions her balls she is able to consistently stun Renekton using her E, on top of utilising her W to slow and provide consistent range damage against Renekton. Try to use short in and out clicks between minions and her, to help bait out her Q. When you’re low and fighting her, try to also respect her using Q to help her obtain extra damage for her R. Overall if you can rush Mercury Treads and play for sustain, Syndra won’t really be able to kill you if you’re playing it well.

  5. 05

Bait Out Syndra E - Being able to kill Syndra entirely depends on how she uses her E within the lane. As mentioned, Syndra can knock back and stun Renekton as long as she pushes a ball back into you with her E, stunning for up to 1.25 seconds. If Syndra uses E without her ball hitting into you, it can only knock you back, presenting the opportunity to E and capitalise on her missed stun. Syndra can usually be killed if she misplays, but also keep in mind she will only E if you dash into her. If she uses E for any other reason to be aggressive, you can look to fight right after it. Potentially if you can mind game her enough, you can E1 or use both dashes, quick enough to dodge her own E.

  6. 06

Rush Mercury Treads - Mercury Treads are very important within the Syndra lane as you’re able to consistently tank her damage, use mobility to each dodge her Q and W abilities, as well as coming out of her stun a lot faster with the tenacity. Overall Mercury Treads really hard counter Syndra, providing you the ability to have more plays leading to eventual kills. Syndra can’t really win 1v1’s without peeling back and playing to burst, so once she misses on any abilities or has no room to run, make sure to abuse this and fight her at will.

  7. 07

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  8. 08

Play For Ganks - Syndra can be really hard to fight in isolation, especially if you’re laning against her mid lane, so make sure to play the wave on your side to force her to overextend for ganks. Syndra can only have one target to stun, so no matter what you may always be able to get her flash if you and your jungler play it optimally. Getting her flash is also gigantic in the lane, as Syndra has no mobility to really defend herself against any flash plays you can pull out onto her.

  9. 09

Respect Syndra R - Syndra is a great tool to burst down her enemies when they’re low, as Syndra R also scales off how many balls she has present around her, as well her R providing an execute if she has 100 passive stacks. Try to avoid being around Syndra whenever you’re low, as it provides a free opportunity to kill you with her R. Try to also protect your teammates if Syndra is trying to use R on them, by jumping onto her and preventing her from getting any closer.

  10. 10

Build Hexdrinker, Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Hexdrinker to lower Syndra’s overall damage and have a MR shield. / - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Syndra’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

  11. 11

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Syndra’s role with the mid game is to play off her range and catch ability, to either deter enemies from straight up engaging onto her or her team, or using her E to catch anyone that’s mispositioned or in front of her. Syndra’s general presence always makes it very awkward to directly approach her, especially within teamfighting scenarios with her E. As Renekton, our preferred scenario is being able to catch out Syndra, with either our team’s AoE or ranged sun abilities, using our flash W to gap close against her, or using fog of war to flank behind Syndra or using it to catch her off guard. Ultimately, if we’re not doing these things teamfights will be very hard to directly take, meaning our best way to play the game is trying to play around our team with the intent of being creative with our picks. When teamfighting, as mentioned try to engage on Syndra with your flash W or solely wait until her E’s on CD before looking for an angle to fight. If you can remove Syndra from the fight, this will increase your changes of winning while stopping Syndra from using R on your teammates or using stuns to ruin your engages.
