Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Respect Thresh's Invade Cheese - The only thing Thresh can really do within the start of the game, is simply forcing an invade. 9/10 times Thresh will always force an early invade, these can take place on both sides of the map, so make sure to either cover 5 point vision, or stack up and look to use your comps potential strength to overpower Thresh and his team early. Make sure not to AFK level 1 in the open, be proactive and skill E if you need to avoid his flash Q if you're caught.

  2. 02

Level 1 Q Start - Try to push for level 2 advantage while poking Thresh with your Q, on level 2 skill E/W use advantage to chunk out Thresh.

  3. 03

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Thresh you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Thresh lose a lot more.

  4. 04

Respect His CC - Thresh's only form of aggression and survivability is based within his CC. If Thresh is able to use his Q, E or R properly within a fight, this can cause some troublesome situations where he is able to lock you out of an entire fight. Try your best to avoid playing into his abilities, such as using minions to block his Q or weaving side to side to avoid his CC. Alternatively, you can also rush Mercury Treads to completely gut his CC duration to present you with more offensive opportunities.

  5. 05

Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.

  6. 06

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  7. 07

Respect Thresh’s Utility - One thing to be said is that Thresh is one of the highest skill ceiling utility based supports within the entire game. Depending on his overall skill level, Thresh can create crazy engage opportunities based on his Q, as well as being able to use W to save his teammates. Try to avoid Thresh’s hooks and lantern plays by simply respecting the people around him. A thing you can also do to hard counter Thresh W, is warding on top of his lantern or clicking right into it to body block the ability. Renekton’s chunky hitbox allows him to completely cover the entire lantern within his R, so make sure to use this to stop champions from escaping.

  8. 08

Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  9. 09

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Within the mid game, Thresh’s focus will be playing around his teammates to secure kills via his CC, while also trying his hardest to hard protect his main carries. With this in mind, simply ignore Thresh in terms of relevancy within the fights, put your entire priority onto his carries instead to eliminate them from the game. Once Thresh has no carries to play for, Thresh simply becomes useless and cannot really do anything to salvage the fight. Also make sure to respect Thresh’s fog of war Q’s by utilising wards or denying vision, as this will completely cut his play making potential.
