Urgot
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Alcove Strat - Alcove Strat - Level 1 try to rush into the topside alcove with E start to avoid being zoned off the wave level 1. Being zoned off leaves Renekton in a terrible position, however being in the alcove prevents losing XP and losing any necessary HP. Once you achieve the first wave of XP, try to leave the alcove safely through bushes and walk towards your side of the wave state.
- 02
Level 1 E Start - Compared to other match ups, trying to cheese level 1 with E is hard aside from getting the Alcove strat to help you get in there faster. However, Level 1 Urgot can start E, in which if you avoid it you can punish Urgot with the E Auto E trade to abuse PTA or Conqueror.
- 03
Respect Urgot Passive - A big thing people lose a lot of respect for in the match up is Urgot’s passive. Urgot passive does a lot of damage upclose, dealing 2%-6% max HP damage as physical damage. These absolutely hurt consecutively in combination with Urgot E. With that said, wait for Urgot passive to go on CD in 1 direction and directly play off that side. Try not to walk around Urgot in a 1v1 as he will unload even more damage, staying directly in 1 direction loses Urgot so much damage that he will not be able to beat Renekton in the 1v1.
- 04
Avoid Urgot E - From level 1 onwards, avoiding Urgot E is an absolute must for Renekton to win any fights with Urgot. Avoiding the Urgot E will result in you being able to trade hard vs Urgot, always giving you a major advantage. To avoid Urgot E, simply look for the visual cast time before it goes off and E or side step out. A way to bait Urgot E is E into Urgot then quickly E out. Doing this allows you to quickly bait out the ability, forcing you to trap him in a fight with you. Another thing to respect is Urgot E Flash, this allows him to surprise his opponent with a quick hard to read combo that can easily sneak him kills. If you’re low and you know he has E, try to stay out of range and look to reset, or read the E start up animation, and predict his flash path to avoid the combo.
- 05
Quick Trades - E in > E out > Bait Urgot E > AA > W > AA > Q > AA / E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 06
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 07
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.
- 08
Respect Urgot R - Urgot R is another dangerous tool to avoid and try to actively avoid getting hit by. Most typically Urgot will look to R after his E Flash, or if his opponent is low in his R execute range. Simply try to avoid standing in front of him with low HP, or instantly R before the Urgot R hits you, so he isn’t able to pull you into execute range. Another tip to think about, is always try to play off the one side of his passive, as any additional damage while having R on you will increase your chances of death to Urgot R.
- 09
3 Points Q > W Max - Personally I find this matchup another W max style match up as you’re able to consistently be in Urgot’s face with multiple W’s, while Urgot completely struggles to peel away from you. You don’t need to W max, but I just find it a lot better and it suits my 1v1 playstyle more vs him in side lane, or even in skirmishes to help me deal with him a lot easier with my teams.

Build Plated Steelcaps, Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK. - Go Plated Steelcaps to lower Urgot’s overall damage and utilise the additional movement speed. / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Urgot’s main objective within the mid to later stages of the game, is to look for flash E R plays onto your carries while trying to look for a giant fear within the team fight. As already stated, it is absolutely essential to not give Urgot the R by any means, as this is a giant tool to help him completely change teamfights. If you’re tanky enough, try to block the Urgot R and hard peel your carries against his E flash. If Urgot doesn’t have flash he is usually pretty useless when it comes to fights, so just play off blocking him from your team and utilise your empowered W and E shred to instantly melt him within the fights.
