Elise
Matchup Summary
Elise being an uncommon laner can be difficult to figure out at first, providing Renekton to play safe early with the intention of reaching level 6 with Mercury Treads and his ultimate power spike. When laning vs Elise, try to take Doran's Shield and Second Wind to help you play into her damage, eventually if Elise over commits on Renekton at level 6, Renekton can double dash behind her to avoid her cacoon, as well using her missed E to force an all in opportunity. Elise through the rest of the game is absolutely useless as a top laner, so make sure to deny her early game strengths to make her useless within the rest of the game.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Play For Sustain Early - Elise's as a laner is pretty underrated when it comes to how strong and annoying her early game actually is. Elise’s poke pattern relies on playing Grasp with the intention of trying to poke and collect grasp stacks switching forms into her spider form. This can be incredibly annoying with how cheesy this, so make sure to avoid any grasp and auto attack damage using the bushes, as well as also using D Shield and Second WInd to help you nullify and survive against her damage.
- 02
Dodge Elise’s E - Whenever you try to engage Elise's natural instinct is to stun you into her disengaging with spider form. The trick to getting her to miss Cacoon, is trying to surprise her with your E to bait it out. You can E close to her Q > E out, this can bait out her cocoon allowing you to burn her mana for free. Another way is double dashing through her, which will make her miss her E while you're dashing past her, this gives you a free all in window to fight her and potentially kill her.
- 03
Rush Mercury Treads - Rushing Mercury Treads is a giant power play into this playstyle, as all her damage relies entirely off AP, as well as the fact the tenacity easily helps you escape her cocoon in case you’re hit by it. Overall, rushing this will present you with a much easier time dealing with her early strengths within the game, allowing you to easily outscale and surpass Elise as a top lane pick.
- 04
Play For Manaburn - The main objective for the early game is trying to keep your HP up, while trying to abuse quick combos to make her waste her mana. Eventually Elise won’t be able to keep sustaining damage against Renekton due to his heavy sustain based playstyle, preventing Elise from utilising her abilities in her ranged form, forcing her into her melee form, presenting Renekton a much easier time in fighting.
- 05
Play Around Elise Repel - Once you’re able to reach Elise, Elise may be able to switch form and look to panic E away onto a target. Make sure when you’re fighting Elise, try to cut off any path of escape she has by dashing on her side of the map, or angling your position to leave Elise within a vulnerable position within the lane.
- 06
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 07
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.
- 08
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Elise’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.
- 09
Midgame + Teamfighting Tips - When it comes to midgame vs Elise, this is essentially Renekton's element within the matchup, as Renekton's pure skirmishing and teamfighting tools through his naturally tanky and high damage kit allow him to reign supreme as the better top lane pick compared to Elise. In side lane Renekton will have the power to always win an all in's vs Elise, as well as also being able to shove waves with ease to out tempo and setup flanks. The only main threat Elise has is playing the fog of war game, make sure your team doesn't go alone vs Elise hiding in bushes, otherwise she will pick off your team with her cocoon setups. Try to walk with your team to gain vision, in fights try to peel your allies off Elise jumping onto your win condition, or try to one shot the enemy carries before Elise is able to do anything.
