Matchup Summary

Ezreal's main threat within this match up is based around his scaling ability, allowing him to always have abilities to throw out at Renekton, as well as being tankier enough to stat check him the later the game gets. Early on in the game, Ezreal's damage is practically non existent, allowing Renekton to force the trades he wants to easily gather an advantage. While Ezreal's damage is low, make sure to avoid getting hit by his Q and W, as these can still hurt as well as lower the rest of his abilities cooldowns. Try to use your movement to bait out his abilities, or use E1 to bait out his E, allowing you to use E2 to follow up onto him or wait until your next E to force a kill window. Try to keep wave states on your side of the map, as this allows you to easily force fights onto him. If Renekton wins the lane, make sure to use your lead to influence fights and objectives on the map, allowing you to take the upper hand in the game while Ezreal is behind trying to scale.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

    Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.

  2. 02

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Ezreal you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Ezreal lose a lot more.

  3. 03

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  4. 04

Respect Ezreal’s Passive Steroid - The way Ezreal's Passive works is that if he lands his abilities onto his target, he is able to get a burst of attack speed which stacks up to 50%. With that said, avoid being hit by his Q and W, to avoid being chunked out and try to fight him when he misses an ability to get the most value out of yourself within fights.

  5. 05

Play For Manaburn - Ezreal's main focus early is playing to scale through tear into triforce then manamune, in which he spikes at his hardest once completing both of these items. Based on this we can play to outsustain him early with second wind and d shield, allowing us to force our E to bait out his own E CD and mana, leaving him in a vulnerable position to lose mana and his blink. Right after this, we can force our next E trade to burst him down, or force a jungle gank to punish the Ezreal.

  6. 06

Abuse Ezreal E CD - Following on from the last point, Ezreal's E is 26 seconds at rank 1, which is lowered by 1.5seconds each time his Q lands onto a target. Renekton can bait out the Ezreal E with his own E, then within that time you potentially have from 10-5 seconds to abuse Ezreal before his next dash comes up. In the event that it comes up while you're dashing onto him, you can use your E2 to gap close even closer against Ezreal, preventing him from being able to escape you. Play off this intently to create the kill windows you need against him.

  7. 07

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

  8. 08

Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.

  9. 09

Respect His R - Each time you're low HP make sure to respect that Ezreal can use R at any time. Make sure to look around you each time you're recalling to avoid his R hit, otherwise you will be giving free kill gold to help Ezreal scale into a monster. Also make sure to ping his R at the start of his animation to wake up your teammates from being hit by it, otherwise it will present free kill opportunities for Ezreal to scale faster.

  10. 10

Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Ezreal's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

  11. 11

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - At this point in the game Ezreal's powerspike will have finally come online. Ezreal's role in the game will be trying to poke out his enemies, with the gameplan of getting his targets low to present his team the opportunity to jump on those targets and finish them off. Within this situation you can't let him and him play his game, instead you must use your early and mid game lead to start the fight by engaging onto him or his other carries. Ezreal is very weak against upfront damage, so being able to dash onto him and stun him for your team is crucial for being able to win the fight.
