Kindred
Matchup Summary
Kindred is a pretty horrible laner all things considered, hence why as a top laner she is very easy to deal with compared to her jungle counterpart. Just like Bel'Veth, Kindred's overall scaling entirely depends on getting jungle camps and consistent kills, something she is not really able to get within the top lane. Renekton can basically do whatever he wants to her in this match up, as he can simply freeze wave states then look to force his trades as soon as she walks into range. To make the match up really easy, you can go Doran's Shield and Second Wind to help remove her ranged advantage within the match up. Kindred's only saving grace within the game is using her R within high profile teamfights. Make sure to hold your damage last second until her R goes off, allowing you to easily kill her or her team as soon as the R wears off.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Kindred you're most likely able to kill her with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Kindred lose a lot more.
- 03
Respect Kindred's Poke - Kindred’s poke isn’t as relevant as other marksmen picks within the top lane, however with PTA and her Q, Kindred is able to offer some resistance against Renekton within the lane. Make sure to use D Shield and Second Wind to take off her damage, while providing you the sustain to constantly fight whenever your abilities come up.
- 04
Play Around Kindred's Passive Mark - Kindred as a laner absolutely sucks, however if there is some cheese strat where she roams in your jungle to get marks, make sure to ward points within your jungle to prevent her roaming for stacks or killing your jungler. Again, this is highly unlikely to happen, but if they’re playing Kindred top then expect the unexpected.
- 05
Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.
- 06
Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.
- 07
Heavy Trades - Being that Renekton carries a lot of high damage, Renekton is able to just jump on his target nearly at will. Whenever your laners present you with the ability to jump on them, simply take the opportunity to burst them as much as you can. If you didn't kill them already from that, use your options of freezing or your tower diving ability to help you finish off your opponent.
- 08
Respect Kindred R - Kindred’s R is the only saving grace within the match up for Kindred, as she can counter any Renekton one shot combos by using her R on herself or low HP targets. As Renekton, if we do have the damage we can essentially one shot Kindred fast enough in our stun, however if we don’t have the damage then avoid looking for flash W’s without it being a guaranteed kill onto your target. When Kindred has ulted, make sure to hold your abilities up until she or her targets exit the ult, allowing us to finish off our target effectively.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Kindred’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Kindred’s overall utility and power within the laning phase should be a lot weaker compared to her jungle playstyle, due to the fact her ability to get passive stacks is severely limited being in a solo lane. WIth that said, we should try to abuse our early advantage to completely dominate and win the game before she gets to scale. Kindred’s main strength is looking for targets while grouped with her team, as this allows her to obtain her marked stacks, on top of being able to use her R utility to protect and win the teamfights. As mentioned, when it comes to team fights simply play with your advantage to engage on her and her backline, with the intent of one shotting any of her carries or making her burn her R for your team. I personally don’t think there’s really a way to mess up against Kindred when she’s severely behind as a laner, so as long as you ping her movements and prevent her getting free picks, then Kindred will never be a problem.
