Detailed Tips

1. 01

   Avoid Olaf’s Level 1 Cheese - A big mistake most players make vs Olaf, is that they will tank 1 of Olaf’s Q’s then proceed to get ran down in the lane, allowing Olaf to obtain first blood. The trick to surviving Olaf’s level 1 engage, is trying to actively click side to side, to help you bait or avoid Olaf’s incoming Q. If Olaf misses Q, he cannot run you down and cheese for first blood. However, Olaf can attempt to fight you and pick up his Axe, in which you can skill E then force a PTA or 2 Hit Trade, then look to dash out. Olaf’s HP will be chunked, allowing you the opportunity to force a level 2 kill with W 2nd. Renekton can also skill Q level 1 if he’s feeling more confident, while playing around ignite and doran’s blade. As long as you can avoid Olaf’s Q’s while kiting effectively, you can kill Olaf and severely put him behind early.

   Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Olaf you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Olaf lose a lot more.

   Respect Olaf Q Spam - As previously mentioned, Olaf’s Q spam can be very deadly, providing Olaf the damage and utility he needs to chunk or kill his targets. Olaf’s Q applies armour shred from each hit, so make sure to avoid long trades unless you’re already fed and in a position to stat check him. Olaf’s Q’s entirely rely on hitting them, so if you’re utilising short clicks to bait them in and out, Olaf will waste his mana and lose a lot of damage in the process.

   Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash. Try to avoid fighting Olaf in extended fights, try to always play with the upper hand of your short combos to help you overwhelm Olaf.

   Abuse Renekton W Shield Break - Olaf’s W shield can help him cheese low HP fights, as he’s able to provide a quick shield to help him lifesteal, on top of providing attack speed to help him abuse his lifesteal and attack speed passive when he’s low. As Renekton, typically we want to hold our empowered W until he uses it in these moments, as we can instantly break his W shield as well as stun him into our kill.

   Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.

7. 07

   Respect Olaf R - Olaf’s R is a giant powerspike tool to help him duels, providing anti CC resistance through his R. When fighting Olaf with R, we typically should aim to double dash away as soon as he uses it. When fighting Olaf, we also want to make sure we fight him on our side of the map, otherwise Olaf can run us down with his Q slow and R uptime, to help him overpower and kill Renekton. Make sure to break freezes with your jungler, or force him to Q the wave and use E to dash away from him. Once fighting Olaf, use short trades to bait out his R, then look to E2 out on our side of the map. If we are fed, we can typically brute force trades with R available against Olaf R. Make sure to play off your strengths to take away Olaf’s power.

8. 08

   Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

9. 09

   3 Points Q > W Max - This playstyle allows you to constantly have W’s to help you stay onto Olaf while abusing your high damage ratios, allowing you to easily snowball and permanently shutdown Olaf within all stages of the game. Make sure to put 3 points into your early wave clear and poke, then look to max W throughout the rest of your points. Once completed, max your E for additional mobility to help enable your up close stun abusing playstyle.

    Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

    Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Olaf’s overall role weakens through the game, making him a very early game reliant champion in being able to snowball. Olaf’s overall objective will be trying to snowball kills through the lane, while looking to skirmish every chance he gets. If Olaf is unable to do either, Olaf’s overall relevancy will not be apparent unless your team is actively griefing fights around him. Try to make sure to still ping Olaf’s movements at all times, to avoid him using his Q utility for his teammates. If you’re ahead of Olaf, try to utilise your power within the side lane to fight him at will. Make sure to avoid Olaf’s teams from collapsing on you by actively warding and looking at the map. If Olaf is ahead, try to farm back in the game while actively pushing back against pushes. Try to also get your teammates to focus on Olaf if he’s fed in side lane, as this will free up map pressure and create a shut down opportunity to get back in the game. When playing teamfights, try to either peel off Olaf using your empowered E to shred his armour, or use your W to help burst him down. Overall, Olaf will try to engage first with his Q and R, so make sure to burst him down as fast as you can with your team, then look to fight the rest of his team when he is dead.
