Orianna
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
This may not always work in high MMR, however if you’re playing in lower MMR or simply want to try something different, then I recommend this - Level 1 E Start - Try to cheese PTA proc or Conq with E1 > 3 auto's > disengage with E2. Eventually if Ori is low enough, you can look to force a level 2 kill with W.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Orianna you're most likely able to kill her with your W, Dash or Flash up. Look to shove the wave around your kill timer, so you're able to make Orianna lose a lot more.
- 03
Play For Sustain Early - Orianna’s high poke and lane bully playstyle within the early game, allows her to easily chunk down and keep Renekton at bay, preventing Renekton from being able to obtain any further kills if she plays well enough. When laning into Orianna, make sure to buy D Shield and Second Wind to help you outsustain against her damage, forcing Orianna to waste her mana, allowing Renekton to mana burn her into potentially killing her or forcing an early reset. Killing Orianna is always hard solo, so make sure you play for the small victories.
- 04
Avoid Orianna Q - Orianna’s Q allows her to move her ball towards a location, dealing damage to all targets hit with the Q. Tracking Orianna’s Q is essential to baiting out certain abilities or forcing your own trades. To avoid being hit by it, you can utilise short clicks to move in and out of her range, allowing you to side step her incoming Q, dodging her potential Q > W or R in the process. Orianna typically uses her Q when you’re standing in her radius, walking towards her, or walking towards minions. With that said, try to spot how she uses her Q, then look to side step it and force a trade against her to punish her ball location. Doing this allows you to overpower Orianna’s advantage within the lane, forcing her to lose mana to bring back her ball, or allowing you to one shot her if you have enough damage.
- 05
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 06
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 07
Rush Hexdrinker - Depending on the lane and game situation, sometimes I will rush Hexdrinker if I want to survive against her burst damage. Orianna’s high burst damage can hit like a truck if she’s fed, hence why having the Hexdrinker allows you to prevent her from killing you within the lane. Regardless, try to avoid Orianna getting any kills by giving up losing skirmishes or teamfights.
- 08
Respect Orianna R - Orianna’s R is quite possibly one of the best ultimates in the entire game, due to her high skill ceiling of how she’s able to use it. When playing around Orianna R, try to avoid stacking up with your teammates, as her over value to mass CC and burst her enemies is absolutely high. If Orianna is fed, building magic resist against her damage is absolutely necessary if you want to be able to reach her. Make sure before any fights that you communicate if Orianna has R. If Orianna does not have R, her overall chances of carrying fights is a lot lower with how much utility her R has.
- 09
Play For Teammates - Solo killing Orianna is definitely hard if they’re playing optimally, hence why focusing and playing around your teammates matters a lot more than playing for yourself. Renekton’s high damage, tanky and utility based approach, allows him to be a great asset towards helping his team. As Renekton, you should either set up plays using optimal wave management to help your teammates gank your lane, or you should utilise your high wave clear to help you look for roams and play for any major objectives. Make sure to understand your win conditions within the game, protecting any high profile carries or disrupting or denying enemy threats.
- 10
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Orianna’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Orianna’s role within the mid to late game, is using her long range to help her poke and peel around her secondary carries, while looking for the perfect R to help change the tides of a fight. Orianna’s overall damage and potential for team fights is absolutely crazy, so make sure to avoid fighting her in disadvantageous positions; those include tight spaces and chokepoints, fighting clumped together with your team or walking into fog of war vs her. Any chance Orianna gets to use her R in these moments is catastrophic, so try to avoid being in them as much as possible. Renekton’s overall objective within the mid game, is making sure he can look for picks against Orianna, using her jungle or waiting in bushes to help assassinate her. If Renekton cannot kill Orianna but manages to get her R, this will allow you and your team to have a much easier position in being able to teamfight. Within teamfights, try to spread out against Orianna and look to find an engage onto her, using your double dashes or flash to land on top of her. Once you’re fighting Orianna, try to get her to waste her R on you or try to kill her before she’s able to use it.
