Quinn
Matchup Summary
Quinn top lane is pretty fine in my opinion,
Detailed Tips
- 01
Alcove Strat - Level 1 try to rush into the topside alcove with E start to avoid being zoned off the wave level 1. Being zoned off leaves Renekton in a terrible position, however being in the alcove prevents losing XP and losing any necessary HP. Once you achieve the first wave of XP, try to leave the alcove safely through bushes and walk towards your side of the wave state.
- 02
Play For Sustain - Quinn’s early lane bully approach can cause Renekton some issues in being able to lane against her early. Her poke, mobility and neutralisation aspects of her kit manage to keep Renekton at bay and prevent him from being able to assert his laning power. This playstyle however only works up until Renekton reaches plated steel caps, or reaches his level 6 powerspike. Before Renekton is able to obtain power within the lane, try to play D Shield and Second Wind to negate her poke power, on top of letting her shove the wave to farm and safely trade against her under the tower.

Respect And Counter Quinn E - Quinn’s E prevent Renekton from being able to trade normally, as she can instantly cancel Renekton’s telegraphed E engage, causing it to cancel out his E1 engage, which also prevents being able to E2 at times. As Renekton we need to find ways to bait her E, which can be walking up towards her and holding our E when we have more movement speed. Or, we can spam E2 really fast within our E, to help us instantly cancel her knock back, and still stay on top of her (This is really hard to do and requires low ping, but it’s sometimes possible if you try hard enough). Another trick we can do vs Quinn E, is we can buffer our W right at the end of our E. As sometimes, we can E1 into her, then instant spam W to stun Quinn in the middle of her own E animation, which allows us to trade CC, but Renekton will be able to E2 on top of her while she is stunned. Another thing to mention about Quinn E, is that when she is overextended on your side of the map, sometimes you can use your character's positioning to trick Quinn into your intentions. This means we can look away from Quinn with our character facing the opposite way, then we can instantly aim our E to double dash past Quinn, forcing her to panic E and potentially fly towards our tower, giving us the ability to run her down and cut off her way of escape. Make sure to find your trading and all in windows by abusing these tricks against Quinn’s E for overall success.

Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 05
Play For Ganks - Quinn’s overall pushing playstyle to attempt to bully and fight Renekton under his tower usually leads to her overextending in the lane, making her a perfect champion to gank and snowball against for junglers. Being that junglers are sometimes slow, you will need to ping and communicate her playstyle to your team, as this can easily allow for your jungler to get free kills and help you snowball. When approaching Quinn, she will look to instantly E off your engage to deny you from chasing onwards, to which we need to make sure we do one of the following tricks against Quinn’s E above to easily obtain damage or cut her way of escape. Once you remove her power in her E, she should be easy to kill disregarding flash.
- 06
Rush Plated Steelcaps - If you want to weaken Quinn’s playstyle, then rushing Plated Steelcaps can definitely help with that as you’re able to lower her overall damage and her mobility by rushing boots against Quinn. Renekton’s base damage isn’t so much a problem in being able to kill Quinn, as the main problem is her mobility to stop you from chasing her down. By rushing boots we’re able to easily stick onto her with our movement speed, on top of making her lose out on so much more damage. If you’re winning vs Quinn you don’t need to buy these, but it always makes her very useless if you do get them.
- 07
Respect Quinn’s Roams - In my opinion I actually think Quinn’s laning phase isn’t really a problem whatsoever, as I do really think Renekton is a good pick if you know what you’re doing. The main issue that makes Quinn as supposed counter is her overall ability to roam the map effortlessly with R. With that said, try to always ping her R movement on the map and make sure to communicate where she is at all times, as that’s where the real match up ties into the game. If Quinn successfully roams and makes an impact, it can be practically GG as she has a free get out of lane card to do it, so make sure you do your best to ping and punish her roams with your wave shoves.
- 08
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.
- 09
Build Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Quinn’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.
- 10
Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Quinn’s overall objective is solely playing off isolated picks, using her R and high movement to catch anyone that’s isolated with the intention of bursting them, trying to obtain objective priority for her team. Quinn’s overall power into Renekton is severely weaker than what her laning power was, however if Quinn does manage to hard scale and get her items, she is able to do a lot of damage if she opts into on hit style items (Kraken Slayer, Bork). As Renekton, if we continually play with the ability to scale through our damage and utility items, while playing around our team when our objectives spawn, Quinn will lose a lot of value in her pick to find the isolation attempts in being able to feed off our team. Make sure to also ping anyone that’s alone to back off if Quinn is present on the map, otherwise it can provide Quinn the kills she needs to get strong. Within teamfights, try to hard focus on who the strongest target is on her team, as this entirely depends on the overall game state. Within fights, Renekton can utilise his utility in the form of building stridebreaker to easily counter Quinn and other ranged carries, or he can opt into full damage to instantly nuke someone off the map. Play according to your win conditions and play to avoid Quinn getting fed within the game.
