Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Defend Your Minion Wave - If Rammus is a Baus fan, then expect Rammus to instantly start proxying with his W to help him kick start his laning phase. Rammus level 1 is pretty weak, but due to his W he can return damage across all the minions, allowing him to passively kill them, alongside using his cloth armour and potions for additional sustain. As Renekton, we need to start by walking with our starting wave, as we can protect it from Rammus killing. With Q start, we’re able to out DPS Rammus with our Conqueror and strong base stats, forcing Rammus to either disengage from the minion wave, or die in the process.

  2. 02

Level 1 Q Start - Try to push for level 2 advantage while poking Rammus with your Q, on level 2 skill E/W use advantage to chunk out Rammus.

  3. 03

Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you chunk out Rammus you're most likely able to kill him with your W, Dash or Flash up. Make sure that before killing Rammus that he uses W, or try to flash W combo him before he’s able to use his W to survive against any incoming damage. .

  4. 04

Respect Rammus W - Rammus W allows him to obtain an abundance of armour and magic resist, providing Rammus the ability to tank Renekton’s damage, while returning back damage with his thornmail style passive, which highly synergises of thornmail rush as an item. To play around this, hold your abilities and prevent auto attacking Rammus, as his additional armour will completely negate your ability to deal damage. Once Rammus W goes onto CD, try to force your fights in the 7 second window that it’s down.

  5. 05

Play Around Proxy - Rammus will constantly try to exit the lane, with his overall objective trying to be as annoying as possible. If your jungler or other teammates are around, you can risk trying to kill him with your combined damage, however if Rammus is able to escape and your team doesn’t have the CC or damage to stop him, then don’t bother chasing him down as his whole objective is to waste your time. Instead, look to secure CS and proxying back on his side of the map. When doing this, you can also use that to ward the enemy jungler or force kills if they’re on your side of the map.

  6. 06

Abuse Empowered Q/E - Within this match up, abusing empowered Q against Rammus is pretty essential within the early stages of the game, as it allows you to easily apply damage while contesting wave push. Using empowered E is also just as important through the game, as it allows you to shred through Rammus’s armour, allowing you to stack that with Black Cleaver to help you hard counter his playstyle.

  7. 07

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

  8. 08

Ping Rammus Roams - Rammus cannot really duel Renekton in 1v1’s, however Rammus can utilise his Q and R to help him engage targets within the river, mid lane or roaming botlane. With that said, try to ping Rammus’s movement all times on the map, as this can deny him from getting free kill opportunities with his engage. Once Rammus roams, make sure to also crash waves and take as many plates as you can.

  9. 09

Build Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  10. 10

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Rammus’s overall game plan is farming giant CS leads, using that gold to funnel into his defensive items, or the amazing thornmail + 4 chain vest build. Regardless, Rammus will try to use his mobility to look for isolated picks with his team, trying to use his Q R combo into his taunt, allowing great CC and catch set up for his team. Overall, as long as you’re pinging Rammus’s locations and always trying to prevent his engage, then he should not be able to easily jump onto you or your teammates. As Renekton, when it comes to general mid game macro we should play to use our side laning power to our advantage, as we can basically fight Rammus at will with our R and our empowered E and Black Cleaver shred. Within teamfights, we should try to always ignore Rammus, as trying to use our auto attacks or stun will result in us taking a considerable amount of damage back. Our core objective is playing to remove Rammus’s win conditions, as this will overall help weaken Rammus’s overall role if he has no carries to play around. When you eventually kill his carries, you can then use your Black Cleaver and Empowered E shred utility to help melt his armour, making him completely irrelevant.
