Rumble
Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
E Start Level 1 - If you’re playing ignite Renekton and have attack speed shard, there’s an angle you can abuse taking E start. If Rumble skills Q and tries to use it, you can use E start on his 10 sec Q CD to heavily abuse him, allowing you to put him at the half way point. Once you chunk him out, you can look for W level 2 to help you kill him and snowball the match up. This is a giant kill angle for the match up, however if he takes E and plays range the possibility is rather impossible.
- 02
Play For Sustain Early - Rumble’s overall laning phase is tailor made to be a difficult Renekton match up, as his low CDs, high damage and overall trickyness of playing around his passive all make it pretty hard to get started in the lane until level 6. As Renekton, try to play D Shield and Second wind, then look to play safe until you reach your powerspikes within the lane.
- 03
Respect Rumble Passive - Rumble’s passive remains a very strong and tricky passive to play around, mainly due to the fact that playing to combo Rumble before his overheat can be really hard if he takes boneplating, has W up or he’s able to time his overheat Q into trading back against you. Fight Rumble in his overheat form is practically suicide, as he’s able to gain a ton of attack speed and on hit damage, while allowing his Q to also do major damage in the process. Make sure to play your combos away from his overheat, unless you’re able to use empowered W against his shield in overheat, allowing you to burst him down and use your dashes to finish him off or disengage.
- 04
Abuse Rumble's Q CD - Rumble’s Q CD is a giant factor within the lane, as we can look to abuse this early for our trades. Rumble’s Q goes from 10 to 6 seconds at rank 5, providing you room to farm or trade against it. A way we can also bait out Rumble’s Q early is clicking towards him or the minions to force his Q, while clicking right back out to stay out of his Q range. Rumble not being able to damage with his Q is a very big factor, on top of the fact Renekton can also use his W to stun Rumble in the direction he is Q’ing, preventing him from facing Renekton to deal damage with Q. Overall, if you abuse these little tricks it can make the lane a lot easier and even force a potential kill against Rumble.
- 05
Avoid Rumble E - Rumble’s E can be quite the annoying poke tool, since it slows by and also applies up to 36% AP Shred, as long as he hits both E’s within a fight. Something underrated to note, is that if Rumble is overheated while using his E, he can shred your MR by 54%, which is absolutely crazy on top of other AP shred items he is able to get. When playing around it, try to use the minions to shield against his E hits, as well as using your movement to dodge it side to side. Rumble E doesn’t really ever have a down timer if they’re good at using it, so always play with the intention to dodge and avoid getting hit by it.
- 06
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 07
Play Wave On Your Side - Playing the wave on your side essentially means playing wave states on your side of the map, via abusing wave manipulation tactics or freezing on your side of the map. Simply use this to help you combo on your laner, taking away any space from them being able to trade you back (This also helps prevent the enemy running you down with their extended or sustained movement speed abilities). You can also use this wave state to run down your opponent with your abilities up, helping you obtain kills a lot easier vs stalemate or ranged match ups. Look to do this when your opponents are below 50% HP, or potentially make a mistake to provide you an all in opportunity to run them down.
- 08
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Prior to this point in the match up, if Renekton has farmed safely and rushed defensive boots in the match up, Renekton is now ready to fight his opponent in an all in. Renekton's high base damage and stats from his R, allows Renekton to completely stat check his counter match up. Simply wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then go all out and kill your opponent.
- 09
Avoid Fighting In Rumble R - Rumble’s R is a giant tool to initiate fights, teamfights or flanks, with his ability to cast his long range R to apply his strong DoT and block off or zone his opponents from advancing or disengage away from it. Rumble R is always a strong ability, so any chance he uses it in a fight you must always look to escape it with your dashes or flash. Rumble R isn’t so much used as a damage tool, but it can also be used as a tempo tool to give him a free reset. Rumble R’s is also a 130 seconds CD, so if he does use it at all for any purposes, you should try to fight him as soon as possible as he’s unable to fend off against Renekton at this point.

Build Hexdrinker, Eclipse, Black Cleaver or Stridebreaker - Go Hexdrinker to lower Rumble’s overall damage and have a MR shield. / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Rumble’s mobility and provide teammates with additional utility. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - When playing vs Rumble in the mid to late game, try to always watch out for his flank potential. Rumble’s soul purpose within fights is trying to play off his R playmaking potential, to either start fights, trap disengaging attempts or use it defensively to deter his enemies off fights. As Renekton, it’s our job to always keep track of his presence as one good R can win him a fight. With that said, try to always disengage from fights if Rumble is TP’ing and your team is looking low. Only take fights when Rumble is not entirely present, or you’re able to bait his R out and use you and your team's mobility to escape the Rumble R. When teamfighting, try to either hard peel against Rumble’s damage by locking him down with your W and teams damage, or try to focus his carries if Rumble doesn’t serve as a big enough threat within the game.
