Detailed Tips

1. 01

   Play For Sustain Early - Vel'koz's high damage and long range can make it very hard for Renekton to get close, with that said simply play to keep your HP early and look for early gank opportunities. Use D Shield + Second Wind to get through the lane and to outsustain his damage.

2. 02

   Respect Vel’Koz’s Damage - Vel'koz damage really hurts, even if you build MR he can proc his true damage passive off depending on the abilities he hits. Try to avoid tanking too much damage, play around minions to avoid his Q proc or punish him after ability misses.

   Respect Vel’Koz E - The main difficulty in the match up is simply Vel'koz E, as he can use it towards the end of your dash to completely cuck you out of comboing him. Depending on the wave location, if Vel'koz is pushed out you can look to E1 towards him, then E2 behind him to potentially miss his own E animation, this potentially results in a free kill or flash burn. If Vel'koz has no E you can always look to kill him.

   Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.

   Keep The Lane Long - Keeping the wave on your side of the map is crucial to killing Vel'Koz. Shoving the wave or playing the wave on his side, simply means he can play safely without any risks. Keeping the wave on your side allows for teammates to help your lane, potentially allowing for easy ganks and summoners being burned.

   Don't Tank His Full Combo - Vel'koz combo is really disgusting with the amount of true damage he can deal, with that said try not to take fights when you're low or if you can't guarantee a heavy fight against him. Vel'koz can really punish sloppy plays, so play with caution.

7. 07

   Play For Your Team - Vel'Koz is quite a stalemate of a lane usually, with that said alternatively you can also play to shove waves and force him to mana burn, alongside looking for skirmishes and teamfights. This is the most consistent plan to play vs a boring laner such as Vel'Koz.

8. 08

   Build Hexdrinker, Eclipse, Stridebreaker or Profane - Go Hexdrinker for early MR against Vel'koz if needed (Maw isn't as worth IMO) / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Vel'Koz mobility and provide teammates with additional utility / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles.

9. 09

   Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Within the mid game most fights will be played with Vel'koz trying to poke your teammates off objectives, while also looking to land his one shot combos. Playing around Vel'koz at this point is simply trying to ward over walls and not stepping into fog of war locations, this will limit Vel'koz's overall options to find kills for himself. Within teamfights, aiming to kill Vel'koz is crucial, and as Renekton you can simply do that with ease playing off your E's and flashes strategically to reach him and one shot him from the fights. If you manage to kill his team, it can also be very helpful to rush baron to ensure you're able to easily siege against him.
