Matchup Summary
Detailed Tips
- 01
Play For Sustain Early - Try to avoid tanking Vex's abilities and damage passive, play off Q to last hit and play off her CD timers. Play D Shield + Second Wind to sustain against her oppressive early game.
- 02
Respect Her Passive - Vex fear is one of the most frustrating abilities in the game, which works from her reaching the red bar under her HP bar. One thing to know is that you should NEVER dash into her when she has it up. Always let her use an ability first, then force any following fights after that to abuse her fear timer. Do note that dashes and blinks allow her to get her passive faster, so make sure you burst her as hard as you can when it isn't up.
- 03
Play For Manaburn - Following on from the first point, outsustaining through sustain based runes and empowered Q is how you're going to be able to get through the lane. Try to bait out abilities by walking in and out, or force her to use abilities to shove the wave. Getting her to base to miss CS or miss skirmish opportunities is what you want to play for.
- 04
Rush Mercury Treads - You have to rush early Mercs in this match up, in the event you're hit by her fear this will allow you to break out of it faster, giving you the ability to W and all in Vex potentially.
- 05
Play For Ganks - Just before a gank, if you're beefy enough you can afford to get Vex feared by walking into her to use an ability. Following on from that you can dash when she has no passive, to allow your teammate to gank off your engage. This is the only real way to gank Vex, if you get flash that's a big victory to allow a 1v1. Otherwise, you can repeat gank as soon as Vex has no passive.
- 06
Ping Vex Roams - Arguably the most scariest thing about this match up isn't the laning phase, but instead it’s actually Vex's roams. Always communicate and ping Vex roams, otherwise she will get giga fed and control the whole map with her R presence alone. One thing to do as well, is don’t bother trying to chase after Vex if you’re far away already. Simply just push for plates and abuse her roam timer to get excess gold.
- 07
Play For Teammates - There's really not a lot Renekton can do to snowball over Vex unless she makes a blatant misplay, however you can play to be around your team and be a giant asset into carrying teamfights of this playstyle alone. Focus on farming, get your situational items and play for picks and objectives.
- 08
Build Maw of Malmortius, Eclipse or Stridebreaker - Go Maw if you're against multiple AP champions or you're struggling vs Vex's high damage / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Stridebreaker to cripple Vex's mobility and provide teammates with additional utility.
- 09
Mid Game + Teamfighting Tips - Vex's role within the game is to assassinate targets off the map, picking people off 1 by 1 with her high burst damage and R reset. In each team fight it's absolutely crucial to block the Vex R from hitting your teammates. You can achieve this by jumping on to her and getting her to focus yourself, or simply dashing in the way of it. As long as you can protect your teammates from Vex, you simply win from the fact she cannot one shot Renekton if he's building HP and MR, so play to be a utility asset for the team. Don't get caught by Vex and her team solo, make sure everyone is grouped and safe away from Vex catch plays.
