Wukong
Matchup Summary
Wukong is a very easy match up for Renekton, as Renekton can practically stat check most of Wukong's aggressive trades within the early game. Wukong's only path to victory is trying to snowball from level 1 with E start, as Renekton simply avoid heavy trading and play to reach your level 2. Once you're level 2 you can take W, to help you peel off against his engage, allowing you to potentially kill him in the process. Wukong cannot really do much post level 3, allowing Renekton to do whatever he wants. Renekton must also respect Wukong's R within teamfights, as this can be a giant tool to allow him to shut him and his teammates down. If Wukong doesn't use R successfully, Wukong simply is irrelevant within the game.
Detailed Tips
- 01
Respect Wukong Level 1 - Level 1 Wukong is at his strongest in the lane, Wukong will try to force his all in with E and potentially ignite. Respect his E and try not to heavy trade auto attacks with him level 1. Simply take Q or W, to peel Wukong off you level 1, then look to push for level 2 if available and commit for a stronger fight.
- 02
Play For Level 2/3 Kill Angle - Once you hit level 2 or 3, Renekton will immediately have his power with Q and W/E level 2. Potentially if you're trading well, you can skill W level 2 and aim to kill Wukong if he overcommits into your wave. Otherwise, try to control the lane with empowered Q heals and W/E trades.
- 03
Respect Wukong Q - This is not something to entirely consider early, however later on Wukong Q can shred up to 30% armour. Try to respect that in skirmishes and teamfights, as the armour shred stacks up when Wukong is playing around assassins or ADCs..
- 04
Abuse Renekton's Q Healing - Renekton has an interesting interaction with Wukong, as Renekton can double heal off Wukong and his clone. With that said try to look for empowered Q's on Wukong's heavy trades with his W, as you're able to heavily out damage through your sustain and damage.
- 05
Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.
- 06
Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.
- 07
Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.
- 08
Build Plated Steelcaps, Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Plated Steelcaps to lower Wukong’s overall damage / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.
- 09
Midgame + Teamfighting Tips - Wukong's Power plays around flanking his opposing team with his E into W R combo, which presents lots of CC and consistent damage vs his enemies. When playing Renekton, try to cut off Wukong's engage by stunning him or forcing him to ult early, doing this ruins his potential room to mass CC your own team and cuts out a lot of his damage. Alternatively, you can aim to kill his carries first as Wukong’s role falters as soon as his carries die, so with that in mind try to disrupt his backline and make sure to kill off his carries so his overall utility doesn’t win him the teamfight.
