Matchup Summary

Yasuo is quite an easy match up for Renekton to snowball against, as his weak stats and doomed 10 death powerspike force him to feed against Renekton. As Renekton, try to avoid fighting him level 1, as Yasuo's damage and attack speed is simply too high to fight against. Post level 2, Renekton can try to be more aggressive, taking W to help him burst Yasuo when he's in range. When laning vs Yasuo, try to avoid any of his incoming Q's by short clicking in and out, allowing him to miss a stack and lose damage. By level 3 Renekton can do anything, just make sure to remove his boneplating behind his passive as well as using your Q or auto attack to remove his passive shield before using anything else. Yasuo get's completely destroyed most of the match up until his BoTRK spike, however Renekton can keep destroying him with BoTRK, Eclipse or Profane. Within teamfights, try to avoid being knocked up for his ultimate, as it can allow him to easily apply his damage with his team. If Yasuo tries to engage, look to time your W stun on his knock up frame, preventing him from using his R and keeping him in place.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Respect Yasuo's Level 1 and 2 - Yasuo compared to Yone is surprisingly much different, Yasuo's overall power is his passive shield and his attack speed. Try to play for CS, don't get caught up in his damage and try to reach level 3.

  2. 02

Play For Movement - This essentially means, try to always click around Yone and time his 4-2 Second Q with your side steps, Yone losing out on missing a Q stack and damage really hurts his play potential for the lane.

  3. 03

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  4. 04

Respect Yasuo's Shield - Compared to most other shields, Yasuo's shield doesn't fully break the way it's intended to with Renekton's W, which overall Renekton's damage gets eaten up by it. Instead use your auto attack first, wait till its fully gone as well as his boneplating, then use your W once both are on Cooldown.

  5. 05

Play Around Yasuo's E positioning - Yasuo's E can be very annoying when he’s defensively playing around it, however Yasuo also has to use them to be aggressive. Yasuo has more room to make mistakes, with aggressive E’s putting Yasuo in an unfavourable position within the match up. Yasuo E’ing closer to your side of the map can present you with the opportunities to fight and kill him, so make sure to hold your abilities until he is on your side of the lane. Try to not be on Yasuo's side of the map, otherwise he will have a free dash to closer to his tower and easily escape you.

  6. 06

Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.

  7. 07

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

  8. 08

Respect Yasuo R - Yasuo R, while being a CC based ability, also has great utility usage in being able to give himself bonus armour pen, allowing to shred any armour you have purchased into him. Try to avoid giving him his ult, as the free pen will later stack up towards Yasuo overpowering Renekton through the later stages of the game.

  9. 09

3 Points Q > W Max - I would suggest to do this if the lane is going super well for you. Renekton’s high utility, low CD and damage from W max allows you to consistently fight Yasuo deep within the game, on top of also nullifying the ability for him to land Q’s if you can time your W through his Q frame, which results in him doing 0 damage. Exploit timing plays like this to overpower Yasuo and consistently beat him within the side lane.

  10. 10

Build Plated Steelcaps, Eclipse or Profane - Go Plated Steelcaps to lower Yasuo’s overall damage and utilise the additional movement speed. / Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Profane for full damage focused playstyles and getting his passive easier.

  11. 11

Midgame And Teamfighting Tips - Within the mid game Yasuo's damage spikes really hard in the 1v1 against Renekton, if Renekton goes more bruisery focused Yasuo will naturally outscale in the side lane. Instead you need to play to clear waves and look for teamfights, unless you’re playing a more damage focused Renekton build to one shot Yasuo. In team fights, try to lock down Yasuo if he tries to engage onto your team, if he is unable to get a massive R play off, Yasuo will lose a lot of value in being able to win the fights for his team. Later in the game, play off your strengths of W max and potentially buy Death's Dance and Randiun’s Omen to lower Yasuo's overall damage.
