Matchup Summary

Yorick is a pretty simple match up to deal within the early game. Simply over trade with Yorick level 1, as his Q start damage is way too high for Renekton to trade into. By level 2, Renekton can play to bully Yorick with his push advantage, allowing him to bounce the wave and look for a kill on the wave rebound. By level 3 onwards, Renekton can assert all the kills and trades, using his E to engage and disengage from Yorick's W. Yorick's only real spike is at level 6, where he and his maiden apply a lot of damage together. Renekton should priortise small trades at this stage, until Yorick is 50%HP where Renekton can all in him with his R active. Killing Yorick Maiden is also essential if you're able to do it. Later on, Yorick will keep trying to look for split push opportunities, forcing you to deal with him in side lane or using your team to help shut him down. Once he is dead, you can force objectives and teamfigths with his death timer.

Detailed Tips

  1. 01

Level 1 Q Start - Try to push for level 2 advantage while poking Yorick with your Q, on level 2 skill E/W use advantage to chunk out Yorick.

  2. 02

Respect Yorick's Q- Since the changes, Yorick is able to hold more of his own with the Q buffs and his ghouls spawning faster. Respect Yorick’s damage through long trades, try to play for short trades until he is in lethal range to finish off with a combo.

  3. 03

Respect Yorick’s E - Yorick E is Yorick’s main poking tool within the laning phase, with that he will aim to spam his E to do a decent amount of damage alongside with his ghouls focusing them. Try to do lots of short clicks to bait out the Yorick E, then try to trade after he misses it.

  4. 04

Quick Trades - E > Q > AA > W > AA > E Out / E > Q > W > E / E Q E - These combos allow for Renekton to get quick damage off in being able to keep health up and whittling his opponent down, use these to get your laner low and look for a low HP kill with flash.

  5. 05

Abuse Renekton's Early Game - In this match up Renekton is essentially able to do whatever he simply wants. With that said, really hone into your strong early to mid game strengths to help you dominate and win the game. Play to deny your enemy of gold and xp, play to proxy and generally lead any top side skirmishes with your insane lane advantage.

  6. 06

Play Waves Accordingly - Simply assess whether or not you want to play for freeze, to help you deny XP and CS, while presenting yourself more opportunities to create fights. Or, play to shove waves to create proxy angles, tempo resets or create a dive opportunity. Renekton has all the cards to do whatever he wants with wave management. Also respect that if your laner tries to proxy, simply proxy back or coordinate a kill on them with your jungler.

  7. 07

Respect Yorick's R - Once Yorick reaches level 6 his R completely changes the state of the lane, as it provides more damage and healing utility through 1v1 fights . Try to avoid tanking his maiden and E damage then punish with a fast combo to get him close to lethal range. If you have the chance to kill his maiden then try to do that first as he loses so much combat stats once she’s dead.

  8. 08

Abuse Renekton's R Powerspike - Once you reach level 6 your ultimate will essentially help you consistently stat check and dominate any match ups you were winning or losing. Make sure to always wait for your R CD to help you make plays, otherwise it will lead you towards a major disadvantage in dueling your enemies.

  9. 09

Build, Eclipse, Black Cleaver or BoTRK - Go Eclipse for consistent power through mid game and damage mitigation with the shield. / Go Black Cleaver for additional CDR and other versatile stats for utility based gameplay. / Go BoTRK to one shot and snowball with a damage focused build.

  10. 10

Midgame And Teamfighting Tips - Against Yorick try to manage side waves effectively, try to hard push each time before you plan on roaming, otherwise Yorick will be able to instantly clear up towers within the side lane. If Yorick is hard pushing the side lane, try to get your teammates to collapse on him to free up map pressure, or try to force a hard fight onto the rest of his team to punish the enemies 4v5 disadvantage with Yorick being in side lane. Yorick doesn’t offer much utility and reassurance into team fights, so make sure to also abuse your overall teamfighting power to over power your pick into Yorick.
